Wow, this was absolutely brilliant! Easily one of the best and most philosophical (and a really good one at that, though challenging to read at times) "first contact" books I have ever read. I am so glad I discovered this! I will need some time to fully digest everything, but it truly deserves far more credit and justice than I can express in this humble review :)

Also, John Wyndham’s writing and wildly creative stories are exactly my kind of thing, I am completely hooked!

I found this something of a drag.The mannered style of dialogue and praise of conformity was something that hinted at interesting aspects to the Cold War paranoia it never looked at in a particularly complex way and the moral ambiguity only seemed to come out at the end.

DNF at apx 50%. I was intrigued by the idea of the story and the sci-fi/horror twist. However, I didn’t realize that the book was first published in 1957. I found the writing style challenging to read through and eventually lost interest due to that.
