Stephanie Plum, Trenton’s tireless yet undervalued bounty hunter, is drawn into a seemingly straightforward freelance job by local jeweler Martin Rabner: find Andy Manley, suspected of stealing diamonds from Rabner's safe. Meanwhile, Stephanie is also on the hunt for Duncan Dugan, a fugitive linked to the same jewelry store robbery. With her boyfriend Morelli away, Stephanie juggles caretaking duties for Morelli's dog Bob and finds herself entangled with the enigmatic Ranger as complications arise. Amidst Lula's fears of a wardrobe-hunting demon and a stakeout involving three generations of formidable women, Stephanie must navigate escalating danger and disappearing witnesses. As the stakes rise, Stephanie proves she's willing to get her hands dirty to uncover the truth amidst a web of deceit and danger.
Ratings:
1. **Plot and Storytelling:** 4/5 I found this installment of the Stephanie Plum series to be another enjoyable adventure, with a well-told narrative that kept me entertained throughout.
2. **Characterization:** 3/5 While the characters, including the side ones, are fleshed out with backstories, I've noticed a lack of significant growth for Stephanie over multiple books, which has started to feel repetitive and somewhat tedious.
3. **Writing Style:** 4/5 Evanovich maintains the fast-paced, lighthearted humor that I've come to expect from these books, which balances well with the elements of adventure woven into the story.
4. **Originality:** 3/5 While the story itself felt refreshingly original and unique, I couldn't help but deduct points because it didn't offer a completely new experience for Stephanie.
5. **Emotional Impact and Resolution:** 3/5 This book lacked a significant emotional punch for me, although the resolution was entertaining and set the stage nicely for the next installment in the series.
6. **Smut:** 2/5 There wasn't much explicit content in this installment, which is typical for the series, but there were still a few steamy moments that added some spice to the story.
7. **Narrator Emotion and Tone:** 5/5 Lorelei King's narration continues to impress, capturing Stephanie's voice perfectly and infusing the story with emotion and personality.
8. **Narrator, Character Differentiation:** 4/5 While King doesn't use a full cast of narrators, her ability to differentiate between characters with various voices adds to the enjoyment of the audiobook experience.
9. **Narrator, Pacing and Flow:** 5/5 King's pacing and delivery are impeccable, drawing me into the story and keeping me engaged from start to finish.
10. **Audio Quality:** 5/5 The audiobook maintains a high standard of quality, with clear audio and no distractions, enhancing the overall listening experience.
Overall score: 3.8/5

Sometimes you just need a fun escape read and this one definitely delivers. This series is always good for a laugh and I love the recurring cast of characters. The latest installment includes all of the series hallmarks: exploding cars, Lula's outrageous outfits, delicious meals and snacks, elusive bail jumpers, Stephanie's and Morelli's lovable pets, and the relationship triangle of Stephanie, Morelli, and Ranger (who will she end up with...if anyone?!). If you're a member of Team Ranger, you'll be happy to know that you'll get a lot of time with Ranger in this one, as Morelli is out of town and only makes cameo phone call appearances for most of the book. I find the books in this series a perfect fit for when I am looking for a quick and cozy comfort read and always find the over-the-top shenanigans entertaining.
It's hard to believe that this is the thirtieth book in the series because it felt just as fresh and funny as earlier offerings. Each chapter includes a drawing of a stack of doughnuts that gradually disappears as you devour each chapter. Another bonus with this one is the list of 30 memorable quotes from 30 books; I definitely smiled and chuckled to myself as I re-read some of those lines. If you're a fan of the series, you'll undoubtedly enjoy the trip down memory lane as you read those. If you've never checked out this series before, it's very easy to dip in and out. The latest offering would be a terrific place to start.
This review is based on the Advance Reader's Edition that my Mom won via the Goodreads Giveaways program and graciously shared with me after she finished it.
