The plot wasn't what I was expecting so I didn't like it as much (aka take this review with a grain of salt)
Started off interesting, ended in a hurry with a lot of questions. The middle tended to drag on, sometimes it was hard to pick it back up. Ultimately. I wouldn't be opposed to reading the second book.
This is the first book by Richelle Mead that I’ve read and I can honestly say it won’t be the last. I’m not usually a fan of books set back in time, but I think I may have been converted. It made for a nice change of pace actually.
With the family money drying up, Lady Witmore is being ushered into marrying. The pickings are slim and she finds herself destined for a marriage that brings her dread.
Until a well dressed man shows up to whisk one of her staff away to join The Glittering Court - a finishing school of sorts where women are trained to behave like ladies so they can be “bought” in the new lands.
A plan quickly falls into place and Lady Witmore becomes Adelaide.
I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions between the girls of the court, and of course, between Adelaide and Cedric - the dapper man who opened her eyes. I loved getting to know her friends, and I’m intrigued to know what Mira has been up to - hopefully that’s in the next book!
Definitely an author I’ll be looking out for.

This was, obviously, not the worst book I've ever read, but as usual I got very tired of the True and Eternal Love really quickly. Usually I can count on Richelle Mead to get me to buy into whatever romance she's got going on, but something didn't click for me this time.
I wish there had been more of 'Adelaide' hanging out with the girls, honestly, or barring that more homestead stuff.

I listened to The Glittering Court on audio book and it was every bit as entertaining as I hoped it would be. YA romance novels are not my typical genre but I knew that my usual high-fantasy or science-fiction would require more attention than I can give to any audio book but a mostly predictable and gushy romance would not be too overwhelming.
The Glittering Court was entertaining, simple, and adequately heartwarming. Listening to it over these last summer weeks during my commute and while cleaning around my house has helped to bolster my newfound appreciation for the medium. However, it is still not my favorite genre and there were plenty of times in the story where I felt useless bouncing around. I feel fairly certain that had I picked this up as a physical book, I would have not finished it at all from boredom.
An interesting aspect of this series, though, is that each book covers one of three different girls' perspective of the same story. While that may seem boring and tedious, Richelle Mead does not give away the whole story in The Glittering Court. There is still a lot of unanswered questions, stories, and mysteries that can only be resolved by following up with the other two girls. I do not plan to pick up the sequel anytime soon but I hope to sometime in the future so I can fill in the many gaps from reading from Elizabeth's sole point of view.
While this is no stellar and groundbreaking debut novel for a series, I would still recommend this book to anyone who felt they were in need of a break from more intense literature and who appreciates high society characters making their way among the 'normal' crowd.

I absolutely loved this book! It has a strong female character and cool side characters, and I just love this kind of genre, although, yes, we've seen this before, but I liked this book better (the jewel and the selection). Thank goodness there is no love triangle! And the love interest is developed very well, and they actually get to know each other and have conversations.
Well, I liked it until 2/3rds. By them it was just dragging along... There was just too much dragging on for my taste, and then it sprouted into a flurry of action I really didn't get, it was really messy. Also at 2/3ds it seemed like a whole different book. I also disliked that we hardly get to know the other 2 girls, and the ending: I just don't get it. It was too much at once and many things left unexplained. That said, it was a wonderful quick read and it has all the things I love about this genre.
Alright, I just have to say this: it was totally unneccesary to "invent" a whole new world. Basically, it was a whole old world, like 1700-1800. We have stiff upper class England, frontier America, the same fashion and clothing, the same style houses and household items, exactly the same native American issues, exactly the same Puritan issues (they were persecuted in England and fled to the New World to be free). Even making profit by selling brides was big business back then, so I don't understand why this is not a historic novel. And therefore I will shelve this as a historic novel.

OMG I finally finished this book, It took me forever!!
I will b as honest as posssible, please don´t hate me for it. This book was a great disappointment. At first it seemed that it was going to be spectacular and ended up being the opposite.
I feel that it was very dense and very slow. Therefore I do not know if I will continue with the series.

This book started out very interesting, but ultimately it fell flat for me.
