I didn't review this soon enough after reading, but I think it's probably ok for 7th & up, actually?

Loved the real liked struggle these teens faced and solved their problem in ways that are not really just a bow and moving on. I liked their solutions were fairly realistic to what teenagers are capable of and I liked the dialogue this book will open.

“Here I am, ready to face the world. Or something like that.” (289)
This book.. hit home. I felt understood.
If someone were to walk up to me and ask for a book recommendation (without asking for any specific genre preferences) this would most likely be it.
At first I thought the pov switching during chapters was super weird, but the further in I got, the more it made sense, and the more I appreciated it.
This book made me both laugh and cry, and although I was a little unsure in the first maybe hundred pages or so, I’m very glad I didn’t stop reading.
Beautifully written to be perfectly relatable in many different aspects. And by a surgeon!
P.S. I first began this book in 2020 during a reading slump. It did not genuinely take 3 years for me to finish this book! Lol
Favorite quotes:
“‘Seriously, don’t stress about the app.’ It’s the only time Priya’s advice ever chafes me, really. Because it’s like she doesn’t even know who I am, to think that there’s ever a moment in my life when I’m not bummed out over one thing or another, or stressed in some way.” (197)
“I just want to know what to think. How to be. I don’t want my life to be a shapeless, endlessly changing plaything at my brain’s mercy. Is that too much to ask? For things to hold their shape for a little while?” (222)
“No one’s ever just agreed with me that things suck. It’s refreshing.” (223)
“‘I wish I could just take a nap and have everything be all better when I wake up.’” (223)
“Here’s the rub: If you leave the choice up to an anxious and avoidant person, there’s a high probability that they’re going to come up with reasons not to decide. So I did nothing, by default.” (328)

This book was a great look into the minds of people struggling with mental health in ways that a lot of people have been struggling with lately. I enjoyed the aspects of a family business and such. At points I was just hoping for a little more reason behind some of the things that were happening.
