Rereading this series. Great start to the story - I forgot about how much personality and snark is built into this character. It's so funny now reading it as an adult and being like 12?!? 12 years old?!

I also REALLY love the words surrounding dyslexia and ADHD in this book. You can tell that Ricks son was feeling insecure about himself in those ways and Rick took it upon himself to give his kid super powers and it TOTALLY WORKS! Truly one of the most heartwarming things about this entire series.

Onto the next :D

--->> second time reading this book and i can't still get enough of Percy :))) hohoho

I worried when I started this that I may not be able to follow it. I vaguely know the stories of the Olympians so I wasn’t sure if that would make a difference. Thankfully it didn’t. I really enjoyed this book. It is a unique story and the author had the main character not remembering the stories too so we get little recaps when needed.
This is a fun read. There is action and adventure and jokes. There are also family relationships and friendships to pull for.
Percy learns that he is a half-blood. While at half-blood camp he learns about his powers, who his dad was that he knows nothing about to begin with and he gets to go on a quest.
It was a great journey. I could feel a connection with Percy and his friends, Grover and Annabeth, through the story. I could feel there frustration, hope and happiness. I kept hoping they would make it and of course in the end be able to save the day.
The author did a really great job creating this world and putting the Olympians in the modern world.

The first of five books centered around Percy Jackson, a 12 year old who learns about his origins in a highly dramatic fashion. Out of this world experiences lead him to Camp Half-Blood, and idyllic farm property nestled outside of Manhattan. Soon Percy, and two friends, set out on a quest to solve the mysterious disappearance of Zeus' lightning bolt.

This book, and all others written by Rick Riordan, are favorites of my children. They have literally read his books dozens of times. Fast paced, engaging, and full of knowledge related to mythology. I decided to find out what they loved about this author, and highly enjoyed The Lightning Thief. Now I can have in-depth conversations with both children about the series and general mythology. I look forward to reading more about Percy Jackson and the great talks the reading will generate on our family walks.

Fun!
