The best part of this book is realizing the author's struggle with finding peace and commonality, especially post 9/11. The most difficult part to listen to/read is the oversimplification and the (sometimes inaccurate) conclusions that are drawn.

All in all it stirred me up...identified the hard spots in my head and heart.

Interesting take on Abraham and his descendants and the applicability of the story to today.

An interesting theme- how Abraham is viewed by the three major monotheistic cultures. Some interesting looks at the way each religion tells stories about Abraham. Later, Fieler bops about, chatting to leaders and representatives of various religions, but by the end it felt a bit sparce. The book felt to me like a guy wandering around asking “can’t we all just get along?”

Best part of the book is the deep Biblical exegesis on the Abraham and Issac story (or Ishmael depending on what tradition you are reading) and I particularly enjoyed the section on each of the three Abrahamic religions - I learned a lot about Islam and the way Muslims have interpreted the life of Abraham and Ishmael in particular. I agree with the author's thesis that we must find common ground with people of different faiths - to view and read sacred texts in a way that accepts other religions, and not a way that condemns them. This is so important if we want to see a world of true religious freedom with less violence and have inter-religious dialogues with members of different faiths.

I've started listening to audio books on my very long commute and this was the first one!

I really love his other books, but this one not so much. I found it sort of boring and not very interesting.

Done with!! That's the best I can say. This book is not for the casual reader nor for the blissfully biblically ignorant, and I am both. I really struggled with it and found my mind wandering even though I really was trying to understand where the author was going with it. I think I would have better appreciated the condensed version or "Abraham for Dummies."

Great book. Explores the many interpretations of Abraham, and how he links and informs Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Very educational, but an easy read.
