Egocentric or cathartic or...nonfiction? You be the judge. In any case, It's still a pretty darn good yarn.

I tore through this book... Some of that is do to it's shorter length relative to all of the (later) Dark Tower books, but it was also a pretty engaging story that moved quickly.
Of all of the books in the series which I've read, this one felt like an episode more than a self-contained story. While, in the strictest terms the ending somewhat resolved the main plot, it also held the aftermath away from us. King seems to have acknowledged this in-text with several meta references to the cliffhanger "Blaine the Pain" ending of book 3. But there was very little lag time between the publishing of this book and the 'final' book in the series, so I don't think it's as frustrating this time around.
I'm looking forward to reading Book 7 and seeing how this train pulls into the station after decades of work.

4 stars. This, while not my favorite, was still a really good read. I thought the beginning was great, around the middle it got really muddled and weird (even for the series standard) but then pulls it all together in the end.
I loved that Susannah was the main focus here. She’s been one of my favorite characters since we were first introduced to her in book two so it was wonderful to have an entire book centered on her. I thought her whole plot with Mia and the baby was interesting and strange. We still get the other characters as well but this is mainly about her.
Also, Stephen King put himself as a character in this book. Pretentious? Absolutely. But dammit, it’s Stephen King so I wasn’t even mad at it. It was bizarre but kinda awesome. He mentions his own books within his books quite a bit but to see him write himself as a character was next level. I think only he could get away with doing something like that.
I only have one more book left and I’m so sad about it. I’ve grown to really love this series so much and I really don’t want it to end but I’m curious to see how all of this wraps up.

Not the biggest fan of meta things, but I've definitely read worse
