Before starting the book, I looked through some spoiler-free reviews and ratings and boy, was I terrified of reading it. Many consider it as (one of) the weakest book(s) in the series and I may be one of the few who actually enjoyed it. Maybe it wasn't as good as some of the previous book, but it was still really good.
Like many others, Susannah isn't my favorite character. I've actually disliked her at some parts, specially for most of [b:Wolves of the Calla|4978|Wolves of the Calla (The Dark Tower, #5)|Stephen King|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1419360231l/4978._SY75_.jpg|2754911], but I also didn't (don't) want her to die or anything so I was anxious to start this volume asap after the last one. I liked her better in this volume though I still preferred parts from Roland's and Eddie's POV.
Now that only one book is left from the series, I feel sad. On one hand, I want to finish the series because I want to see what's going to happen, but at the same time, I don't want it to be over so soon.

Regarding the fourth wall being broken, it was quite confusing at first but then pretty interesting later. I liked the idea and unlike some, I don't think it was unnecessary. On the contrary, it just adds to the significance of the Dark Tower. The Stephen King in the book is a fictional version of our King, after all.Now that only one book is left from the series, I feel sad. On one hand, I want to finish the series because I want to see what's going to happen, but at the same time, I don't want it to be over so soon.
Po bardzo dobrych "Wilkach z Calla" ta część cyklu MW wydała mi się najsłabsza i najbardziej przegadana. Chwilami byłam już naprawdę znużona i znudzona i dość długo męczyłam ten tom. Końcówka wypadła nieco lepiej ale całościowo do efektu "wow" jest już o wiele za daleko. Taki przeciętniak, na szczęście krótki ale trzeba go przeczytać, żeby w końcu dotrzeć do Wieży.

There are a lot of silly scenes interjected to push the plot artificially towards the conclusion. The emotional temperature scene in the "Mind Dogan" being the biggest groan of all. It's honestly so bad it circles back around to being funny.

So. . . I am a bit behind on my reading again this year but also have no doubt that I will catch up. How do I known Because I only have one more Dark Tower book to finish. Also, I am not reading Moby Dick until next year.
I view Song of Susannah as a set up book. All of the action in the book takes place in the two days following the defeat of the wolves in Calla Bryn Sturges. It's also clearly designed to set up what I hope will be a humdinger of an ending. Jake Chambers must make the Tower. He is the true son of Roland Deschaine. Eddie Dean, I suspect, will die making sure that Jake gets there. It will happen against overwhelming odds, just as Cuthbert before him.
I do have somewhat of a problem with the good doctor King writing himself into the story as a character. It's not really that he did it but that every other character is portrayed with such depth and he portrays himself sort of like a cardboard cutout. Not that big of a deal but I hope it serves more of a purpose than Jake getting the key that allows him to retrieve black 13.
Anyway, I have a book to read for book club now. Then I get to dive into the Dark Tower. It's been a long walk on the Beam. Where's Ted Brautigan? What about Jack Sawyer? Do they come into play? I am ready for the rose.

5 stars the first time around and the 2nd time. I love this series like no other.
