This one delivers a baby, and sets up the final confrontation in the last book. Nothing particularly spectacular (although King gives himself a character/roll).

I knew about King inserting himself into the narrative beforehand but that part really didn't bother me so much, despite maybe being a bit unnecessary. Really gets 3/5 for just being more of a prologue for book 7 than anything else. This one just doesn't stand by itself and is just there to get the characters from Calla Bryn Sturgis to where they need to be for the finale.

This installment of the Dark Tower feels very much like a "transitional" book, a stepping stone to fill in some of the gaps before we get to the last Dark Tower. Honestly, (writing this after finishing both SOS and TDT) I can't really remember which plot events happened in SOS versus the beginning of TDT.

I will say, I really enjoyed getting more of Susannah -- I feel up until this point in the ka-tet's journey, she was like a shell of a character? And seeing her internal struggle with Mia gave her a lot of depth. I also felt sympathy and heartbreak for Mia.
