Another book in the series that I liked, I definitely liked it, but in some ways I don't know how to feel about it. I am pretty fond of the formula in fantasy novels that has the group split apart to achieve separate goals, because it makes reunions sooooo good. So while I was pretty pissed about the whole Susannah-Mio thing, and still am, Roland and Eddie striking out on their own to save their girl made me so happy. Even if it didn't work out that way.

I feel some type of way about certain revelations. I wasn't exactly surprised about the baby being Roland's, it's the kind of twist I figured would come. And honestly in a weird way it makes me happy that there's something else that connects my fave trio for better or ill. But like, things seemed to be going in a way that suggests that Roland sees Susannah as a sister/daughter rather than a peer??? LOL. If you wanted me to swallow that it should have been part of that relationship before the sixth book.

God, and all the tragedy/pain porn leaves me cold, I just want Susannah to get OUT of this shitty situation and fast. Mia too, to some extent. I don't care about that happens to the demon baby; I don't think I'm supposed to. But Susannah's been through ENOUGH, this is getting silly now. Also, I almost went wild with anger near the end of the book, where Susannah muses that this whole thing is actually her own fault, because she/Odetta was weak enough to let Mia in in the first place. Like, what the blue fuck. LMAO. There's assuming responsibility, and then there's whatever the hell that was. None of this is even remotely Susannah or Odetta's fault.

Jesus, just let her and Eddie have a happy ending. Please.

What else... the Stephen King as a literal character bits made me laugh. It wasn't as cringe-worthy as I thought it would be. The format of the book felt a little gimmicky tbh, with the whole song thing. And the fact that it was such a short book... like, I don't think it was a BAD thing, it just felt weird, in terms of pacing. Jake's whole bit with pulling the gun on the taxi driver was ridiculous; of course he loves Oy a lot, but it was overkill and it felt forced and really stupid.

Anyway, almost done with this series, and I don't regret picking it up. Unless Susannah dies or some shit, then I'll steal all of Stephen King's shoes and follow him around for the rest of his life, dropping legos in his path.

Pros:
- pacing is amazing
- you can really connect to what's going on w/ the abundance of exposition

Cons:
- really not my favorite character or my favorite part of this story
- UGH

I will add a half of a star so 3.5 out of 5.

This one wasn't my favorite of the novels in The Dark Tower series. Once I learned that Stephen King was an actual character in the book I just had a bad feeling that I am not going to like the ending. I am also confused on who the bad guys are here. I know there is Walter and the Crimson King but also some vampires or are they rat mutants. Just not sure. I will say though the cliffhanger was good and you don't know what is happening to Roland, Eddie, Susannah, Jake, Oy or Callahan. It does make me want to jump into the next book right away (even though I've read like 100 pages today) and find out where this tale will take me.

There are all kinds of people in this world and others (there are other worlds than these, remember?) and I mostly don't pass judgment on their peculiar life choices (live and let live, eh?). Plus, I pretty much ignore people altogether (if they're not fictional, that is). But there are certain types of people that I will never ever be able to understand:

1. People who prefer winter over summer.
2. People who don't like Nutella.
3. People who like chocolate with raisins.
4. People who like to run even though there's no one chasing them.
5. People who think this book sucks.

Now, if you belong to one or more of the above-mentioned categories, you need to seriously reconsider your life style because something somewhere went terribly wrong. I'm kidding, cry your pardon, who am I if not the most tolerant person in the world. You are completely entitled to your wrong opinion, that's fine.

You know what else is fine? This book! Reading all these comments, I mentally prepared myself for a complete and utter disaster of Twilight proportions. The general consensus is that this is the worst installment of The Dark Tower series, which very well may be the truth. When there are 7 books, one of them is bound to be the worst. Whether I agree that this is the worst one or not, remains to be seen after I finish the entire series. But I enjoyed this one so much and so will you, constant reader, trust me. Don't trust this sorry bunch of weirdos who like freezing to death while eating chocolate ruined with raisins right after running a marathon. They've clearly forgotten the faces of their fathers. They're no longer part of the ka-tet.

So, six down, one to go.
I'm ready.
I will aim with my eye.
I will shoot with my mind.
I will kill with my heart.

This was a total ayfkm experience. I will follow through to the final book, but this series has been underwhelming from start to near-finish.

Really get why the later ones are viewed as not as good. Genuinely didn’t folllow Susannah’s plot, and I find myself not really caring about the whole ‘mystery’ around the plot/ king being in it.

One book left before the conclusion of “The Dark Tower” series, “SOS” is a more different entry as it largely centers on Odette whose body is being controlled by Mia, her second personality and that she’s made a fatal deal. As for the rest of our ka-tet, they must travel to past worlds to find a rose that’s linked to the Tower. While the story is still getting more suspenseful, it’s only a matter of time to see if Roland will finally get to the tower. A- (91%/Excellent)

While I love this series, Song of Susannah has been my least favourite so far.

Not my favorite in the series, but heartbreaking in its own way. Certainly the fastest read of the series. The structure of the story with our heroes split in groups was perfect but maddening. No spoilers, but ooohboy did I yell out loud at this book a lot. So thrilled to be almost at the end of the tale. But also heartbroken that the story will end.
