I enjoyed the challenge of the book and all the mysterious pretenses.
That said, some of the themes were a bit drawn out so it was difficult to remain engaged through the whole book. I think it could have ended several chapters sooner. The book ends with a pretense for a potential for a sequel and maybe those chapters could have been carried forward.
Favorite part of the book is that two strong female characters solved a case that numerous police officers and FBI agents could not.

This is the first Baldacci book I DNF'd. Just did not seem to be written by the same author I love
medium-paced
Count me a fan of Micky Gibson. She is a divorced mother of two very young children, an ex cop from Jersey who needed a more settled job after her divorce. Micky's father and mother live near her home in Virginia. Her dad is an ex-cop. Now, she spends her days in a home office using high tech software to search out assets of extremely rich deadbeats. And she is amazing at her job. Unexpectedly, she gets a very odd call from a woman who calls herself Clarissa and Micky is suddenly drawn into a request from a total stranger to investigate the death of a local man. Along the way, she meets the local cop who is investigating the death, turns up information on the dead guy that leads her into interactions with the FBI and uses her contacts from Jersey to secure information on the victim. Rumors of a treasure grab the attention of numerous insiders with an interest, including a bad guy who claims he was ripped off by the dead man. A collection of young adults with a common experience of devastating trauma in childhood have connections to the dead man.
I really, really enjoyed this book: the plot, the characters, the writing. I am surprised it didn't receive better reviews from some readers.

I loved this book as I always love David Baldacci, BUT
I am not sure it was worth the work. The book took me 4 1/2 days and a book this size should not have taken me more than a day and a half at the very very most.
TEDIOUS to say the least, but worth it in the end. A real chore.

A good “who done it” listen for my mom taxi duties. 3.5 rounded up.
What amazes me about Baldacci is the breadth of characters he has created in the last three decades. He even writes children's books.
Simply Lies provides another new path with a villain and hero that appear to evolve into to future heroes. We will see.
Mikey Gibson, work at home mom, gets pinioned into an asset hunt with lots of potential trouble. The anti-hero, whose name is an huge and early question mark, is of dubious character in so many ways, the path to heroine is long and tumultuous.
I know I enjoyed the mystery as a stodgy old guy, but women should love this book as well.
Much fun, much twisting and turning, and a great outcome. -Tom L.
