For most of this book, I wasn’t too much of a fan. It really pulled through on the ending though. I wasn’t loving the Jihad-ness of it all but the ending saved it for me.
this was honestly such a rollercoaster. last half was definitely better but like what the fuck… alia and duncan?!?!?!?!? why did the author think that was a good idea im dead. also rip chani the only good character when her purpose wasn’t to reproduce. also how the hell is paul all seeing and didnt notice someone was slipping her birth control….

The 2nd book in the Dune series takes a stab and seems to deconstruct what the first book built up, but in a good way. The 1st book made Paul seem so large and indestructible, but this book broke down that narrative by exploring his weaknesses and faults. The plot can get complicated quick and I got lost a couple of times since the action involves mostly politics, planning, and other elements of mind warfare.
This book has the perfect ending and Frank really should have stopped there.
I'm happy he didn't, the other four books are great, but the ending of Messiah is easily peak Dune.

It started to get a little strange, but not as bad as I was expecting. I wanted to start the book over as soon as I finished the last page. Very immersive and great world building, but still felt intimate and zoomed in to the main characters struggle. I’m so excited to read what’s next!
