Laugh-out-loud funny, and it has really helped my daughter (who is a reluctant reader) get interested in books!
funny lighthearted relaxing fast-paced

Very entertaining, and I did laugh out loud a couple times, but I was pretty well horrified by what a jerk Greg could be at times. I know he's a middle school kid, and I was probably a jerk when I was in middle school, but I guess I was hoping for some character development or a gain of self-awareness by the end of the book.

Greg Heffley needs psychiatric intervention

i love how nostalgic this makes me. reminds me of my childhood.

Let me start off with saying that I love the format of this book. I think it has really started a new trend in juvenile literature, and it is insanely popular with my students. That being said, I couldn't stand the protagonist. Greg Heffley takes advantage of his friends, is mean to his baby brother, and generally tries to slack off all the time. Yes, he does get beat up by bullies too. But I kept wanting him to have a catharsis, to realize how good his friend was and that he should stop treating him badly, and I don't feel like that ever happened, even with the cheese incident. But then again, maybe I'm just an adult looking for a moral when this is simply meant to be fun.

Fun, quick read

greg is a narcissist and possibly the worst friend ever

My students love these books. I’ve put it off for years. It’s not as horrible as I expected. It’s not really my type of humor but it genuinely seems like what an 11-12 year old boy would write in a “diary” so I see the appeal.

Fun read.
