This was really good. A YA written recently that, while having a few portions of predictability, were well placed. The twists and cliffhangers that weren’t predictable were enough to wrench your gut, particularly the last page of the entire story. Sure, there’s issues like Jaren being a Gary Stu type, but in this case with the surrounding story it was easy to get past. Definitely worth a read, especially since I felt I absolutely had to get the next book immediately after.

that ending makes no fucking sense. the last few sentences it seems like she changes personalities and I’m just so confused right now. does she even care about jaren? what are her motives and why? I FEEL SO DECIEVED AND ANGRY IN THE WORST WAY. like the character I’ve been reading about throughout this whole book is not actually who she is. and I’m going to be so fucking pissed if kiva has been faking how she feels about jaren and is planning to take his throne for malicious reasons. I’m also confused on her “backstory” now because what is even real anymore. I give it three stars, though, because it was really fun and I enjoyed reading it. but the more I sit and think on this book, the more angry I am because I feel like the author wrapped up the book so sloppily. It’s just so cheap.

I absolutely loved this book and the ending was one of my favourite endings in a book I have ever read. I really like how it wasn’t really complicated with a lot of characters and you got to really know each character individually. The character development was written really well and the plot was set out really well. :)

This book.. whew. It pulled me in at the start, I felt a bit confused and bored in the middle, and then I was punching the air at the end for not guessing. I’m so intrigued to see where this story goes in the next two books because this one left me confuuuused. Something about it is keeping me engaged, so let’s see where it goes…
