This book was a super slow burn with time jumps that I loved as a vehicle to build the story. Reading it was like putting together a jigsaw puzzle where you don’t quite know what the final picture is meant to be… in the best way! The characters are so complex, and I was fully invested. I didn’t love that the book - while it has sections - didn’t have chapters, and that is only because chapters help me feel like I’m making progress in a thick book (obvs a personal issue). This is apparently Enriquez’s first full novel after having many short stories published, so maybe that contributes to its format. The ending was a bit too clean for me. I expected more of a crescendo. But I loved the journey! . I can’t wait to devour more of Enriquez’s stories.

I REALLY loved this book. It did a great job layering its mysteries and slowly revealing the answers to us over multiple timelines and multiple povs. While it was slowly paced, I was never bored and always intrigued which is the sign of a good horror I assume. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because the ending, where he killed all of the members of the Order, felt almost too easy. There was no struggle, and while I didn’t hate that, I just wanted there to be more. This is a book I’m glad I annotated and will think about always

4.5 stars. This took me a while. It started off so strong and then felt like a bit of a lull in the middle but then picked right back up. The writing was so beautiful and descriptive I could picture everything perfectly
gay men written by a woman in the worst way. also i was bored. but everything connecting at the end was cool
