I loved this! It's an unabashedly silly and maximalist science fiction story. Its influence can be seen pretty much everywhere, but it particularly reminds me of the science fiction films of directors who embrace an epic, campy aesthetic, like Luc Besson or the Wachowski sisters. Don't come for sharply written dialogue or particularly deep and well-rounded characters; come for the engaging world building, exciting action, and beautiful artwork.

I have literally no idea what the hell I just read was, except it was obviously written by a dude in the 80s who thought adding techno- and meta- to the beginning of every other word made some kind of sense.

I finally got to finish this. I preferred the colors of the original. But the story was incredibly out there and the art is amazing as always.

Half-baked, with some beautiful moments scattered throughout. Jodorowsky throws a hundred semi-related ideas, worlds, colors, and characters at a wall. Some of them stick, many don't.

This is a very disjointed experience. We often cut from one location to another, but the plot is so fuzzy and expository that it's hard to follow the thread. I was often confused as to whether we were cross-cutting between different scenes or we were still in the same one, since the use of color and world design is so wild and fluid that I couldn't get my bearings.

The writing and exposition are abysmal. There was only one section in the sixth volume, when we peel away the flimsy secondary characters and get a straightforward story of the protag and his sidekick, that I was able to be engrossed in the plot and ideas presented. Otherwise, this thing lives and dies by the gorgeous and wacky panels of Mœbius.

The Incal is a mess, but I'm glad I read it.

It was decent, although I seriously strained to read 300 pages of tiny lettering on my iPad. At least the art was by Moebius, which I didn't know going in.

DPL hoopla

Well that was certainly odd. Its not mind-blowing, but then I came into comics a long way down the road from when this came out. It's pretty and I like the idea of John DiFool as the prototype for Shinji from Evangelion. Its...a thing.

I wanted to like The Incal. Moebius' artwork is phenomenal, and it creates so many inventive, immersive worlds. but I could not get over the stilted, overly-explanatory dialogue, in which every character reiterates every event every time they speak. I can see why The Incal is a classic of science-fiction, but the writing simply did not work for me.

THIS WAS BANANAS!!! LOVED IT!!!
