Obviously Jodorowsky's first crack at writing comics but he makes up for some clumsy notes with his expansive imagination.

The wast and interconnected universe of weirdness is really interesting. However, it did not seem as if there were a functioning universe that would have its own rules which would serve as a stage for the story. On the other hand, it seemed often very random. Nevertheless, there are some great moments that are worth checking out.
This is some crazy shit right here. It's every 1970s science fiction movie cranked up to 11. Don't expect it to make a lot of sense, but the art is beautiful and the imagination on display demands respect.
Artwork by Moebius was very good and this edition had strong colors. Jodorowsky's strength is in the conceptualization but suffers in the execution. He really isn't that strong of a writer. So! Many! Exclamation! Points! I feel that if the movie Spinal Tap had been about a writer, it would have been about Jodorowsky.

The Incal is a glorious romp through Jodorowsky's supremely screwy cosmology, as lowly class R detectivie John Difool stumbles into a plot of galactic invasion, treason to the perfect hermaphrodite Emperoress of Humanity, the foul machinations of the Technopope, and a spiritual battle against ultimate darkness.
The illustrations of immense scifi vistas by Moebius are of course a delight, but the story lacks the oepidal resonances of The Metabarons. Pretty good, all told, if you know what kind of weirdness you're getting into.

Weird and very pretty. Not as weird as I was anticipating, though. As Bendis' mentions in the introduction; you can see echoes of this in every modern adventure story and echoes of every modern adventure story in this. Strangely ahead of its time in many ways. The art alone is worth the price of entry.
