A well written fairly standard story as far as the time travel element goes. But I enjoyed it! It could’ve used a solid edit to take out like 100 pages though.

Historical fiction x family drama and intergenerational trauma x time travel.

Interesting concept and great writing. I liked how it showed a variety of human experiences, e.g. struggling with addiction or living through Soviet Russia.
One thing that I wasn't a big fan of was the... I'm not sure how to describe it: theatrical? dramatic? style. It felt like I was watching a movie in my head instead of empathizing with/"becoming" the characters. E.g. in the end, even though the last scene was centered around Raisa, it was in third person (Raisa did this, Baba did that) instead of ("I'm going to be late," Raisa huffed).
Pacing was also a little inconsistent: sometimes the narrative felt too stuck on a snippet of one of the character's lives, other times it felt like they were speedrunning through a scene?
All in all, I really enjoyed the plot, original idea, key questions + themes raised, and how the characters interacted + were interconnected to each other.
Also enjoyed the way the author explained the world through different lenses: science, comic/art, math being a language, etc.

I enjoyed the experience, but gosh darn it some of the characters I wanted to shake some sense into so it got frustrating at some points. 😅 I did love the time travel exploration and the mix of comic books & art with science. Raisa was my favorite character. The ending was a little rushed, I'd have like a just a few more pages maybe to cover more details, but overall I enjoyed this story. I'd love to read more by this author in the future!
