Beautiful is definitely a word that comes to mind for this book. I listened to the audiobook version and even the narration was beautiful. I think it might earn it's way onto my "re-read" pile, if only because I think I missed so much. It's an emotional book and I think my brain might have glossed over a bunch. I loved the characters, though!

the writing is really beautiful. more poetic than your average fictional prose, but that doesn’t hinder the pace or storytelling. fell in love with each of the characters and think this did an excellent job of showcasing the different ways a demise of a relationship could look like when the partners are friends above all else

This book held me and would not let go. I want to get a physical copy asap (listened on audiobook) so I can read it again and find all those sentences that felt more like lyrics to me.  It was stunning, hopeful, heartbreaking, joyous, all at once.  Following these queer women find themselves and lose themselves and struggle and succeed felt like an honor. I don't know if I have the right words, but I think this will be one of my top books of the year.

I listened to this on audio. It was so long, I can't believe it was only 300 pages! I had to check it out from the library twice. This follows five queer women in Uruguay in the 1970s-80s. If you want to read about what life is like for political and societal "subversives" in a dictatorship, this book is a well-written set of stories. It's sad and funny all at once, but mostly sad.
