I didn't really like the banter from the characters I felt a lot of it took away from the story

I’m really not sure what I just read.

I think there was a plot in here somewhere, buried deep beneath the spite and animosity all of the unlikable characters had for one another. There was also (maybe) a ghost, but we only ever saw her through the eyes of a character who had just been released from a psych ward. So maybe there wasn’t anything at all.

It’s rare that I find a book with so many words I do not know piled on top of each other, it’s even worse when I’m not sure what language these words are in and my google translate isn’t either. I’ve never read an author trying so hard to be edgy and failing so miserably before. Nothing sells “murder” like a Facebook like button. Seriously, she equates a murderer’s guilt to slowly fading Facebook friendships.

The only reasons this didn’t get a one star rating is because I willingly chose to finish it and the book cover was cool.

I really liked the beginning, but after chapter 6 or 7 it kinda started to drag

Magical and devastating descriptions of a haunted house and characters who were haunted by their own lives and relationships with one another long before they even got there. The build up was a strange journey with an unexpected climax but with less attention to the resolution or characters than I would've liked. And oddly, I never felt like I knew the ghost as much as I would've liked, maybe because the story felt externally Japanese without being internally Japanese, if that makes sense.

Way too abrupt of an ending that it ruined the whole build up of everything else
