2 stars cause it was interesting and i liked the writing style kinda. if i hadnt this would be a one star cause wtf was any of that. no one liked each other the house didnt make sense non of it made any sort of sense. if this was a fleshed out book. like 300 pages i think it couldve been done so much better. but this super short one where we just blow past everything going on is not good.
Okay listening on audiobook was a whole other experience. I really loved this this reading session. Loved the way japanese culture was looped in and the poem was haunting. I've read quite a few haunted house books recently but this one had a lot more creepiness to it like Diavola. Definitely recommend it was a really fast listen as well!
I wanted to like this book because the cover is beautiful but I just could not. The prose was pretty at times but got annoying and the characters were all insufferable. Also it didn't feel like a fresh take on the haunted house like advertised and they did not do that much and just conveniently found the answer and it just did not feel creative how they solved the issue. It wasn't even character driven in a way like the characters felt forced and not developed fully.

I want this to be about 150 pages longer, and really flesh out the plot and character relationships. The atmosphere and writing were creepy, grotesque, haunting, and beautiful and I loved it.

A fun and creepy short novel. Not complicated per se but effective. It was like a grown-up version of scary stores told under blankets in the dark.
