Short review:
I saw this anime some time ago, sadly it stopped and didn't get a second season (yet). So I decided to see if I can find something to clench my thirst for this awesome series.
Sadly, I can't find the light novels, and the manga doesn't go so far yet. :(
The manga (and probably the light novel) are very close to the anime, I was at times a bit bored, because I already seen those scenes in the anime.
So far I haven't met any characters that I didn't like, they all have their traits and they are all fun. Maou, our demon overlord who now works at a Mcdonalds. He and his servant live in a run-down apartment. And then we aren't even talking about his enemies who drop from the heavens to hunt him down.
There was only one thing I didn't like, the unnecessary amount of nude in regards of the hero girl. She is the only character who we keep seeing naked (shower/undressing/in flashbacks as the hero).
The manga is comedy, but also has action, fantasy and a bit of romance.
I would recommend this one to everyone who needs a fun manga.

It's hard being a Devil King on earth, especially when you're stranded with no magic in modern day Tokyo. There are bills to be paid and a part-time job at McDonald's doesn't pay all that well. And as if that wasn't enough, the hero responsible for banishing the Devil King Sadao Maou and his general Shiro Ashiya to earth has tracked them down and is bent on destroying them both.
For readers in search of a humorous but action packed read, look no further than Volume 1 of The Devil is a Part-Timer. The shenanigans of Maou, Ashiya, and Emilia as they struggle to adjust in a magicless world, that isn't suited to their epic battle of good and evil, are ridiculous and hilarious. Plans for world domination through being promoted to a fast food manager? How could that plan not work?
This is a great, highly underrated manga. It has character, and characters galore. For a new take on the age old story of good and evil, read on!
I adore this anime, and so decided to give the manga a try. This first volume is very similar to the anime; however, it lacks some of the flash that the amazing animation brings to the table.
That said, the story is clever and fun, and I really enjoy the cast of characters. There is something both absurd and relatable about a part-time employee in a low wage job struggling to move up, with delusions of grandeur (though in this case he has some reasons to have earned this ego).
I think what works particularly well is the multiple conflict points of the series. Characters from the fantasy realm all are trying to learn about earth and the real world, which causes some amazing interactions, this also gives them a bond with each other, even while they might be enemies. Then there are people who actively are enemies of each other. It just works really well.
Overall a strong start and one I am excited to keep reading.

The Devil King has ended up in the human world (aka Japan) and has lost most of his powers and must get a part-time job to support himself and one of his demon generals that has accompanied him into this strange place. Where of all places does he find a job? The local McDonald's of course! Oh, sorry they refer to it as MgRonald's throughout the book. Every time I see that word the image a giant burly man with a heavy accent pops into my head. He's trying to say it properly, but despite his attempts that little 'c' inevitably becomes a 'g', so MgRonald's it is!
A bit entertaining at first to see the Devil King and his loyal general trying to figure out the human world. Who would of thought that Satan himself is the spitting image of excellent customer service?! Remind me to borrow a few examples for our next CS training. And what a sweetie he is to his coworker Chi-chan! Always helping her learn how to handle the various machines at work and even lending an ear when she starts to hear mysterious voices in her head. Fingers crossed that this becomes a successful romantic pairing.
Then enters the Hero, Emilia, the daughter of a human and angel, who is set on killing the Devil King and the last of his generals. My first impression of her had me glaring angrily at the pages and hoping she would get sucked into some mysterious black hole. She was, at first, highly unlikeable! Then enters her coworker Rika...guess friendship makes a girl a little softer around the edges. Hopefully, this compassion from Rika will make the Hero more likable in the next volume.
The one thing I am dreading most is the possibility of a Hero x Devil King romantic pairing. This would make me throw the book across the room. Hopefully that does not happen in later volumes because then I would most likely have to pay my local library for a replacement copy. If the Hero can think of anything other than her revenge on the Devil King and would like to delve into a bit of romance I think a pairing between her and Rika would be fitting. Rika is as much of a sweetheart to Emilia, as the Devil King is to Chi-chan, in his own way.

When the demon lord Satan Jacob is soundly defeated by Emilia the Hero in the magical land of Ente Isla, he beats a hasty retreat- too hasty, in fact, because he finds himself in modern-day Tokyo without his magic powers! Not one to be defeated easily, the Demon King plots to... get a job at "MgRonald's," a name designed solely to avoid a lawsuit if ever there was one. Will he find a way to restore his powers and take over Earth? Will he avoid going broke and become Employee of the Month? Maybe both, maybe neither. It's all up in the air for now.
Now on to my actual thoughts. First of all, not a fan of the fanservice here, but eh, it's not as gratuitous as Tagame's work.
Other than that? This is a solid first installment. It's a little tropey, but it's got a good balance between serious mystery elements, workplace satire, and morally grey characters which seem to have a good capacity for growth and dynamic relationships (despite them being a demon lord and a hero). It even has a rudimentary magic system that Sadao Mao speculates on. I also am liking this over the anime so far due to it beginning in medias res and jumping straight to Sadao's life in Tokyo and then giving us little crumbs of backstory throughout.
