DNF after the first chapter, which is far earlier than I usually give up on a book, but Trace isn't a love interest, he's a criminal. I don't care how powerful you are in your own corporate bizarro world, trespassing is still trespassing, and a crime. Danni should have called 911 on him, but it's hideously lampshaded in a paragraph about how this incredibly powerful businessmen couldn't possibly be there to rape or murder her.

...why not? I mean, if he's that powerful (which he repeatedly says he is, and Danni seems to believe) then why the hell couldn't he have barged in on Danni's date specifically to victimize her? His driver and the business associate who originally approached Danni know he's there, but if he's that powerful I'm sure they'd give him an alibi for Danni's murder when the body's finally found. Yeah, Danni's lackluster date saw him at her place, too, but why stop at one murder? Some random dude in the wrong place at the wrong time would be easy enough to clean up, right, if you're that powerful.

Trace is immediately characterized as a power-tripping sociopathic stalker who uses intimidation to get what he wants and isn't above bullying someone in their own home WHERE HE IS A CRIMINAL TRESPASSER.

And Danni spends the whole time annoyed by his attitude while simultaneously lusting after him with every fiber of her body.

ROMANTICIZING ABUSIVE BEHAVIORS IS DANGEROUS. STOP DOING IT.

This book… met expectations.

I’ve been in a reading slump for the past few weeks, not enjoying books I know I’d normally like, so I needed a reset. And, obviously, the best reading slump reset is an over the top, smutty romance novel. This most certainly was that.

One Is A Promise is not without problems, but reading it made me realize that there are some genre themes (that were exemplified in this story) that are objectively problematic but which I find very funny (e.g., Alpha Males with Massive Cocks, Sex in Awkward Settings, endings that are *so* extra, among others), and some that I just find objectively problematic (e.g., dubious consent). But I also realized that I can find all sorts of problems with a book like this and still have so much fun reading it.

Well I don't know how to review this one... I think maybe I had too high of expectations going in to this book. I'm 50/50 about what I liked and disliked. I liked Danni's relationship with Cole, they had great chemistry, I also I loved how she took care of everyone who needed it. Other than that though, I was not a fan of Danni. She made me crazy and I rolled my eyes a few too many times. I loved how confident she was most of the time but she also made a lot of bad decisions and they mostly felt like a way to get attention which honestly she didn't need because she surely wasn't lacking for attention. I normally love the dark brutish alpha male but I also like them to be confident and honest and Trace wasn't either of those thing most of the time. The scene when they are together for the first time almost has me stopping this book because it was so ridiculous and immature. Those were my thoughts on the first part of the book. THEN once these two got their stuff together, I started to really like them both. They were acting like adults in love and their chemistry finally started to really sizzle for me. I liked Trace once he got what he wanted, oh and I forgot to mention I did really like how he was willing to do whatever made her happy like helping the shelter, that was sweet. Once they found their way, they were HOT!

The end was not a surprise for me at all. I saw every second of that coming about 1/3 of the way into the book. This "shock" ending really didn't leave me needing to know what happened next. I wasn't sure at that point if I wanted to continue on to book 2 but after talking to a friend she told me I should give 2 a shot so I am. I am going to try and go in with an open mind and not let all the things I didn't love about this book sway my thoughts starting book 2.

The narration was ok. She is a good narrator, great at keeping things easy to follow by giving each character their own voice. I don't know if it was her voice or not that had me disliking Danni from the beginning and in the beginning her male voice wasn't working for me with Cole/Trace but after awhile I forgot about all that and enjoyed her work.
