Ok so I LOVE this plot. I really enjoy the push and pull and chemistry of these two main characters even though I started to get frustrated towards the end when he pulls a HUGE d*ck move and she lets him get away with it. I felt like I knew what was coming at the very end because of the flashbacks, but still the end is enough to make you HAVE to read the next book in the series. So now I have to go so I can keep reading!

2.5/5
I don't really know what to say...

I really liked the story-line and the book was very well written. When it ended -well, when I thought it should have ended- it was perfect. The perfect HEA (happily ever after).

Trace was perfection! I love bad boys (in books) and he was the best arrogant, rude, self centered bad boy there is. Hot hot hot 😃 He also loved intensively and passionately. He helped her move on, he helped her let go of her dead fiance. Most importantly, he did not push. He wanted her, but he never pushed. He waited till she was ready. He was pure perfection!

But then... then the author messed it all up in the last 5 or so pages. I HATED the ending. Because of the book blurb I knew it was coming, but that didn't make it any less surprising and INFURIATING.

It always amazes me how a 5 star book can turn into something you never want to read again because of the last few pages... and when that happens, I struggle to give it a rating.

SPOILERS AHEAD
I could just hide the whole review but naaahhh.

I FUCKING KNEW IT!

I went into this without a lot of expectation since most smutty books aren't really my thing. But damn. Danni just owning her own sexuality made me like her as an MC and made this book bearable for me. Sexy, is what it was.

Danni met Cole 4 years ago and had an instant attraction even before their first words to each other. They spent 10 months falling harder in love until Cole got called to work overseas for a year. Before he left, he proposed and they promised each other to meet at the altar a year later... or a month before the date of their wedding anyway. But Cole never came back and was reported dead after not surviving an explosion, such is an auditor's job.

3 years later, Danni is starting to move on by her sister's coaxing. She was set up by her sister on a date but in the middle of it - Trace Savoy swoops in like a hawk and hounded her since then. Driving the date away and Danni fixating on this manly presence that fired an attraction in Danni since Cole.

Danni felt an instant attraction towards Trace's scowl and his air of confidence. Something about him the only person coming close to how Cole made her feel. Trace's blue eyes vs. Cole's dimples. I like dimples but I would also melt with the right hue of blue.

And then the sexual tension began... best I've ever read (I think?).

I'm not one to wallow with MCs and their lost first love but reading Danni's POV never made me feel it. Her character is playful and fun and not the self-pitying type that just cries every night for her lost love. We get to see some of it but the story didn't focus on it. She is a strong character and I like that.

Trace, the scowling man. He had a typical character where he is a none-smiling businessman but is soft for Danni. He is very interesting since he appears so cold and we really don't know much about him except his parents are dead and he inherited a lot of money, and runs an empire. He evoked Danni's need physical touch and helped her move on. For that, Trace wins for me.

It was nice to see the love story between him and Cole but I felt more connection with Trace. There was more glimpses into his character than Cole's. I'm not one for love triangles because I don't want the other one to lose except you, Adam Kent. But this book was barely it. It was more the memory of a a man vs the present one.

The only thing I couldn't connect to is how Danni just dances to every song. Literally. Wiggles when there's music. I can't.

"My life began the day we met. There is no before. Only you."
- Trace

"No." He snorts arrogantly. "But anyone with a dick knows how to change brakes." - Also by Trace. Fuck you, Trace. Watch my vagina learn how to. xD

Back to my first statement - that ending - I fuckin knew it.

Wow! Loved this! Very well written and edited, One is a Promise is a beautiful, suspenseful, sometimes dark, sometimes sweet romance with LOTS of angst and sexy he-man lovin', just enough slow burn, and a heroine who isn't a wimp.

This is one of those books that I read until I couldn't keep my eyes open, and then I read it when I woke up in the middle of the night because I couldn't wait until morning!

Be warned, though, there's a cliffhanger AND this is a trilogy, but we only have to wait about a month between books. And it's so, SO worth it!

I CRAVE books with the angst that this one has but am often (more than often) let down, so I was thrilled to read this, and I can't wait to read more of Ms. Godwin's books. I VERY highly recommend!

I'm going to be honest. After the disaster I had with the last Pam Godwin book I read, I was in no mood to read this one. However, I'd already purchased it, so I hunkered down and decided to give her one more chance.
While this book was infinitely better than the last one that I read (Sea of Ruin, by the way), I still had so many issues with the characters and how they handled their relationships, mainly due to the extremely overused overprotective, testosterone-ridden, jealous male trope that kept appearing (which was a common theme in the Sea of Ruin as well, so I'm assuming it's just an author's preference thing).
Despite this, I really loved the main character and how she wasn't afraid to stand up for what she wants and believes in. I also really really enjoyed Cole's relationship with her but thought that Trance fell flat in many ways, especially as everything begins to be revealed at the end.
All in all, it's a story that wasn't necessarily written for my tastes but that was interesting in and of itself, and I wouldn't want to tear my hair out at the thought of continuing the series, so that's always a good sign.

3.5 stars. This was so frustrating! This was solid for a good 40~% of the book and then things started descending into madness. This wasn't an issue where the writing was bad and the writer is a fumbling mess, I just expected better from Pam Godwin.

The characters were engaging in unnecessary push/pull and their personalities became extremely inconsistent and this is A HUGE pet peeve of mine. I hate it when characters say they'll stand strong on something and then back peddle spectacularly shortly after! This happened so much with the heroine—she makes up her mind to rebuff the hero's advances, and then caves in a second. Her wishy-washiness felt immature and the author could've done better with this.

I did find it believable that
Spoilerthe heroine is plausibly in love with both of the heroes. Sometimes it's obvious that one is "more" loved than the other, and it's not the case here. And I also found both heroes to be equally compelling in different ways
.

Normally, I'd jump right into the next book after that cliffhanger, but the wishy-washiness, the character inconsistency makes me a bit hesitant. I do want to see how this plays out, but I hope the plot and the character development gets tighter.
