This is my first Tess Gerritsen. It won't be my last. I've gathered that the book is one of a series, but that simply doesn't matter. The characters, some of whom appear in other Gerritsen books apparenty, are stand-alones who become quickly quite believable.

A clever plot brings together two seemingly unconnected stories, and we find ourselves in a violent world of human trafficking, police and FBI corruption, and a nine-and-a-bit-months pregnant detective, Jane Rizzoli. Whether you're blanching at the details of a too-much-information autopsy, being quietly horrified at the bleak life of a young trafficked woman, willing a siege situation to come out right - since our pregnant cop is right in the thick of it - or following the convoluted politics of the case, you'll be involved in this narrative.

It's not a good book for an insomniac like me, as I chose to read yet another chapter before trying to settle down at last to sleep...and then another ... and another. A thoroughly involving read.

Very well-written and compelling. The characters are well-developed, and it’s easy to care about what happens to them. However, if I had known there is human trafficking in this book, I wouldn’t have read it. Tess Gerritsen is just too good at describing things. I would have given it four stars instead if it wasn’t so starkly descriptive of humans doing terrible things. But I was glad it had a happy ending, and the good guys won in the end.

Jane Rizzoli rings a bell for me . . . I think I might have read The Sinner . . . but I'm not sure about that.

This one was just okay for me.

I REALLY liked this one. I even shed a few tears! It was that moving and unnervingly scary.

It's another medical thriller with the two ass-kicking women, Rizzoli & Isles.

I liked the fact that Gerritsen was able to tell the story, once again, from the victim's point of view. I truly enjoyed that perspective, not that I'm a sick pervert, but because I was able to feel their emotions, all of them; fear, anxiety, depression, rage, hope, eternal longing for a better life.

This truly was a great book. From the beginning you are thrown into this whole experience of illegals escaping to America for a better life, to Jane Rizzoli ready to pop and still kicking ass and taking names, to Maura Isles using her keen intelligence to aid those who lost their lives.

We also for the first time was able to see into Gabriel Dean's head. This was a unique perspective coming from supposed the "man in the gray suit." His emotions definitely got caught up in it all.

From the beginning, this was a rip-roaring thriller that literally had me lighting the pages on fire, that's how fast I read it (a matter of two hours!!). I really liked this and loved how Gerritsen has developed not only the characters but the series.

Jane has a baby on the way, and her sense of motherhood is ominiscent. She's scared but she still loves being a mother. But sometimes her love of being a cop gets in the way. There's so much that happens in this book and I don't want to give anything away because Gerritsen's writing is so beautifully composed that there are "mini" twists and clues in the plot that will make you think it's this person or they're tied together because of this! But when you keep reading ALL of your guesses and hypothesises are totally off mark.

Great book, great author, and it's really turning into a great series. I enjoyed the first one, the fourth and the fifth ones the most. I can't wait to see how else these girls are going to put their lives on the line for another victim. They always seem to end up in trouble.

Diese Spannung, diese ganze Affäre in die auch noch der Staat reingezogen wird. Illegaler Menschenhandel - Gott ich liebe das Buch. Tess Gerritsen schafft es wirklich immer Spannung aufzubauen!

I haven't read the Rizzoli & Isles series for a while and I know I missed it from when I started listening to this audiobook. I really love this series. It doesn't feel formulaic. This story is chilling and touching at the same time. Some parts I felt the author had skipped a bit in time and left information out, it felt rushed at times. However, I really enjoyed this book

Suspenseful, typical of series. Made me wonder why Jane lost her baby in the TV series
