This is a very goal oriented book based around mind-mapping habit change type stuff. It is not a book about generally developing good will for yourself or even kindness- tbh idk why it’s called that. I didn’t have a goal to describe, mine was to increase self-compassion but it seemed geared towards exhausting a negative habit that you were psychologically distraught about. If that’s not you, this probably won’t help

We. Love. A practical. How to book.
This book is a good balance of theory and practical applications. I think it’s length it’s quite approachable (180 pages vs other self help books that can rack up 400-500 pages) and therefore appealing to all sorts of people.
Having a background of some other self help concepts helped to show me where some of the theory came from, but I think this book is something that once owned, people will come back to a lot and be able to get something new out of it each time.
The map guidance was clear and concise, and the use of examples helps readers to visualise what they need to do. While I did not complete any maps on this read through I definitely will be doing so on my inevitable revisit to this book.

Truthfully, I didn't even make it through the introduction. I couldn't get past the author's attitude about her own weight, and her repeated insistence that diet can work for anyone if they are disciplined enough regardless of numerous studies that have proven otherwise.

There are a couple of new coping methods I learned when it comes to self-acceptance. This book is meant to be read using the physical version of the book. There are "End of Chapter" questions to answer. Overall it didn't hold my attention.

Although the audiobook is only 5 hours, I’d bank for a couple days of solid reflection to get through this book and give the map exercises the attention they deserve. Definitely the kind of book where you get out what you put in. I enjoyed the framework, the focus on combatting negative self-talk when goalsetting, and Izadi’s professional and personal anecdotes.
