It was cute, but I don't consider this a dog book. The dogs had really really reaaaaaaally minor roles here and I feel like some of the plot holes we're just... given up? Like one sentence to fix them and no explanation or thoughts or whatsoever

This book is equivalent to a corny Halmark Christmas special (you know you hate to love them!) it was perfect for what it was!

4.5 a nice story, but not cheesy. The dogs play a part in the book, but they are not a bigger part than the people.

A Dog's Perfect Christmas // by W. Bruce Cameron

Anybody who knows Cameron knows he writes adorable books about dogs and their people. This title is as sweet as any of them. If you are looking for a quick read that warms your heart and that gets you into the spirit of Christmas, this book is perfect for you. I love how he focused on a family that was struggling with issues that normal families everywhere struggle with, giving each character the space they deserve and showing how much their individual problems were affecting them as well as each other throughout. As always, the perspectives of the dogs added that great extra to the books that we are used to but I enjoyed having the humans' perspectives on everything also. This book shows what family is truly about!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Light, but heavy?
Predictable, but sweet in the end.
I prefer his other books over this one. If you are in the mood for a dog book, grab 'A Dog's Purpose' instead.

You know what to expect with a Cameron dog book: good story told in a straightforward way with no padding. Cameron adheres to Elmore Leonard’s “10 rules if writing”, especially the “don’t write the words your reader won’t read”. I like to read a bit before going to sleep at night, and most books are very good at lulling me to sleep. I expected the same from “A Dog’s Perfect Christmas”. I was about a third into it last night when it just took over. Sleepy? Not a chance. Finished it.

I especially loved how the 13-year-old Ello thought in Capitalized Words. Perfect!

If you haven’t read “The Repo Man” yet, it’s time to get on with it.
