this was SO GOOD and my heart can't handle this.

i loved hades; i felt so protective of persephone; my heart broke for pallas.
the plot was great - maybe a little rushed at the end. there was too much build-up and too little pay-off, which meant it took me quite a while to properly get into. i read the first half of the book over the span of a few weeks, but just read the second half in one evening.
i loved the romance! hades/persephone was so cute, charis/persephone broke my heart right from the start, i positively ached for pallas and her love for athena.

honestly a great book that would have been a 5 star read had the pacing been better.

plus, that ending? I LOVE.

This needed more world-building and more character development. I couldn't get into the plot because I just couldn't really imagine the setting or the characters. I also didn't really believe the love story- there wasn't enough depth or context to make the love between Hades and Persephone believable, and I felt like there was a bit of a mother-child thing going on with them that felt a bit strange. Also, trigger warning, as there is a rape scene and an attempted rape scene in this book.

The Dark Wife is an important novel for young adult fiction. Although it is lacking in some characterization and the prose is a little purpley, it's great for representation. Read my full review here!

Cute sapphic Hades/Persephone retelling. I liked how the pomegranate came back at the end.

Honestly, I have a few words to describe this book
It was not something I usually fancy, but it touched me deeply. From the tough and badass characters I'm usually accustomed to, I was met with these two soft, kind queens that have stolen my heart. I absolutely loved the beauty of it all. The gentleness of their love. It was a retelling that managed to explore the love I have in general for Hades and Persephone. I appreciated very much how affection was shown in this book. Embraces and kisses and AHHHHH. Gave me such a soothing feeling. Felt like I was there, gathered up in their arms, and it was all okay. Plot wise, it wasn't that much of a thing, but I took it as a more of a character oriented book, which is the reason why I was not bothered by any of the plot holes. The characters were genuinely something different and I loved that. I loved reading about this softness and simply, the power of love. (Please, I want to marry Hades. She will be mine. Nevermind, I want both of them.🙏🏻😩)

i found that a lot of the conflicts didn’t feel as intense as the author may have intended: they felt very rushed.

This book was a solid lesbian retelling of the popular Hades and Persephone myth.
