I started this book years ago, and just couldn’t get into it. I decided to give it one more try. I was not impressed. I kept waiting for climactic parts, and they just didn’t happen. I did like the characters, though. Interesting family.
I agree with others who had problems with the ending, which seemed rushed and probably unrealistic. But I still give this book four stars. As she had in her other books, the author included wonderful details ("Little Miss Can't Be Wrong") that so perfectly captured my own childhood/teenage/early adult years. This was the first book in a while that caught and kept my attention -- I've had some trouble lately getting into the books I've been choosing to read, and this one hooked me from the beginning. I especially enjoyed Kate's struggle to reconcile her loyalty to her family (sister and father) to her role and responsibilities in her other family (husband and children). The earthquake prediction kept the pace rolling along, but I equally enjoyed the flashbacks.

This book took me a while to get through, and now that I've finished it, I 'get' it a little more. This is definitely a slow burn book, but once it got to the ending, I was sucked in. I hated the way the story ended, btw, but this is one of those books where you get to explore another person's point of view, maybe with differing beliefs than your own…definitely not a "feel good fiction", which is my normal preferred genre, but definitely worth a read if you like a book to make you think about a character's choices, and maybe what you would do in their shoes.
Ending felt rushed, otherwise a great read!
A weekend read suiting a sunny day. Nothing ground breaking but a plot line different to others and a portrait of everyday life with a twist of otherness.

I read this, but I can't say I actually liked it. The main character (Kate) is a control freak and deeply ashamed of her psychic ability. Her twin sister predicts an earthquake for their city (St. Louis), and Kate capsizes her whole life because of the prediction. One big problem I had with the story is that Kate hires a publicist for her sister who charges $15K for 30 days of work. When Kate talks with her husband about the expense, her husband tells her they have $11K in their savings. They have 2 young children. Kate thinks nothing of continuing to employ the publicist despite the cost. That's how obsessively focused she is on this (stupid) prediction. She will forego a safety net of $11K for her two children so that she can avoid being embarrassed.
I always wonder with a story like this where the main character is not a villain or an antagonist that perhaps the author wrote this character knowing that most readers are not going to like the character. I think that is the case here.
I also think Kate's husband, Jeremy, is not believable. He's too understanding and comes across as one dimensional.

I love Curtis and how she writes relationship dynamics. Always a fave
