The truth is, I had a hard time getting into this book, but eventually I clicked into it. That this was published in 1945, so soon after the war(s), is the most remarkable thing about it. I don't know if I care enough about the characters to watch the show, but perhaps on a rainy day.

The Pursuit of Love follows the coming-of-age story of two cousins, Fanny, the level-headed narrator, and the eccentric Linda.  As they attempt to navigate London society and endure the presence of their often uncanny familial relations, there is but one pursuit which consumes all of Linda’s time and energy — the pursuit of love.  From Spain to Paris to London, Linda seeks out a love story truly worthy of the greatest romances in history.  While Fanny steadfastly follows in Linda’s wake seeking to be struck with a more pragmatic kind of connection.  Will the two women find love before time runs out and World War II begins?

« I have only ever read one book in my life, and that is White Fang. It’s so frightfully good I’ve never bothered to read another. »

I had wanted to read this book for some time, as I have a great affinity for the Amazon Prime miniseries adaptation.  After searching for it at my library, and attaining a copy with overly small print, I can definitively say that it was well worth it!  The characters are superbly quirky, there is a perfect amount of WWII preamble, and it is humorous in so many ways!  (There is also an over abundance of commas, but the narrative is easy to follow nonetheless.) It proved well worth the read and delightfully fun! I feel as though I could be such a terrific “hon!”

*I will disclose that the language is dated in many instances however.

𝕋𝕙𝕖 ℙ𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕦𝕚𝕥 𝕠𝕗 𝕃𝕠𝕧𝕖
By Nancy Mitford

Blurb

Nancy Mitford's brilliantly witty, irreverent stories of the upper classes in pre-war London and Paris conjure up a world of glamour, gossip, and decadence. In The Pursuit of Love, Love in a Cold Climate, and The Blessing, her extraordinary heroines deal with armies of eccentric relatives, the excitement of love and passion, and the thrills of the social Season. But beneath the perfectly timed comic dialogue, these novels are also bittersweet reminders of the brevity of life and love.

My Thoughts

I must admit I was attracted to the cover of this book, I love all the colourful watercolour swirls!
This book was first published in 1945, and you are definitely transported to a time of post war upper class living.
Linda, her sisters, and her cousin Fanny are obsessed with finding love, marriage, and sex.

It's a story about growing up and the search for love!

Apparently, there is supposed to be some comedic humour throughout the book, but I didn't quite find that I'm afraid.

So it's a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me! 🤓

this was a JOURNEY and I don't know if I loved it. I think it was really entertaining and actually had some interesting critiques/statements about society, love, and how human desire can ruin a person. The ending was shocking. The beginning was funny and relatable. I would give it 3.5/5
