I felt Snowblind was a sophomore attempt at a police procedural. I hope it was a learning experience for Mr. Jonasson and subsequent books improve. I’ve read promising reviews of later novels so will try another one again.
Snowblind had a significant switch in the author’s style just before the reveal. In the majority of the book, the author freely shared what various characters were experiencing and thinking. Then, when the lead character, the young inexperienced policeman, had his theories to prove, the character no longer shared his thoughts or observations. The change is so abrupt, like going up stairs and finding that last step you expected to be there isn’t and your foot steps down farther than anticipated. Jolting, but not disturbing.

Perfectly nice mystery set in the most northern part of Iceland. It's sort of a police procedural since the main character Ari Thor is a detective, though very much fresh out of school and this is his first job. Ari Thor is very much at that stage of life where he hasn't realized that the whole world doesn't revolve around him. He gets slowly better over the course of the book, but I'm assuming there will be more growth over the rest of the series.
Once the book got past setting up his move and first few days on the job, it settled into the actual mystery with alternating points of view. There was something off about the way the story was told, but I'm chalking this up to the translation maybe being a bit lacking.
Not sure if I'll read more in the series or not. Probably one where I won't go out of my way to pick one up, but wouldn't say no if somebody gave me one. I am sort of curious as to how the series progresses.

Podobała mi się ta islandzka, niespieszna kryminalna bajeczka. Zdziwiona jestem, kolejna seria wpada do kalendarza

A young police officer Ari Thor receives a job opportunity in the remote Icelandic town of Siglufjördur. Hoping for the start of his career to be peaceful and uneventful, he takes on the challenge but is disheartened to see that his girlfriend does not wish to leave Reykjavik. Shortly after his arrival, a local prominent author falls to his death. It seems to be an accident, but Ari Thor has questions.
I have a deep affection for Iceland, its landscape, and the secludedness that snowstorms can bring in the winter. It is men versus nature, where nature usually wins and men need to adapt. This book covers the surrounding environment beautifully so, that I can vividly imagine myself there. However, the plot left something to be desired. I didn't quite understand the story as a whole. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have read this book as an audiobook, because I was confused by the multitude of characters who had similar-sounding names.
