I saw the villain coming from a mile away. Had some faults in its execution but still entertaining enough to get me to read the sequel

I'm not sure what I was expecting. I enjoyed the first 20%, and I really enjoyed the determination of the main character, and then it started slowly going off the rails (not in a good way). I think my issue stemmed from expecting a book closer to movie Black Swan (which it was at the start), and then it devolved and turned into a murder mystery (didn't care) as it went along, with heavy critique about ballet culture (which I appreciated a lot). The writing prose was okay, although some sentences and paragraphs were clunky.

I labeled the pacing as medium, but it is all over the place. The ending is especially a bit of a drag. I didn't see the point in the main romance--there could've been another way to come across that point.

I just couldn’t get into the theme of the book

I very much enjoyed this book and could connect with the main character Laure on so many levels. The author did an amazing job on the build of the very visceral emotions one feels when dealing with institutions that are systematically racist, classist, and elitist. Laure went through micro and macro aggressions which I truly could understand the need for revenge. This was a well-written villain origin story that had me rooting for the villain from the very first slight. My only critique is the relationship between Laure and her "best friend" Coralie, which became grating after a while. The continued relationship no longer made any sense and Laure's actions related to and with Coralie were completely out of character that it read as a dumb horror girl trope towards the middle and climax. The exact opposite of what this story was building towards. Overall I really liked it and if there is a sequel, I would grab it.

I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast is Me is an emotionally raw YA contemporary fantasy horror. As the cover implies, expect blood and body horror!

I have been looking forward to reading this book for a long time and I was NOT disappointed! This was an excellent read! The characters are all fantastically written, whether in a “good for her” way, a “love to hate them” way,” or in every way in between.

The villain was set up very well. Even if you guess the villain early on, all the reveals and breadcrumbs are still fun, exciting, and tense.

I was not expecting the romance subplot, and definitely not expecting to be so moved by it. I loved the characters’ love in all its interchanging tenderness and monstrousness.

It can be difficult to describe a visual art like ballet without sounding clinical. This author, though, wrote it perfectly! Let this book be an example to any author writing dance choreography!

The narration was fantastic! I also loved the beautifully creepy intro and outro music.

I strongly appreciated the social and political commentary of the story, in both the critique of the ballet world and the Western world at large. I was only ever on the fringes of the ballet world, never going en pointe, but I know what happens in this book (minus the fantastical elements) is horrifically common and needs to be called out.

I am about to dive in to this book’s sequel! I’m excited to learn where Laure’s story goes. I will definitely be reading even more by this author!
