This was an engaging and suspenseful read. I wish I had read it as a child, though, because it was not much of a mystery for this adult reader. That was frustrating in a story involving a fictional but realistic crime, as it was not believable that the detectives hadn't solved the case.

Two young boys try to solve a murder, in their small town. It's not much of a mystery as to who the killer is... or is it? Either way, the heart of the story is the friendship between the two boys, which I enjoyed.

Closed for the Season , while not scary, is a solid middle grades mystery. The keyword here is "middle grades." This is not an adult thriller or even a YA thriller to hold the attention of older readers. It is, instead, a book meant for the 10-12/13 age range and I think it's perfect for them, especially kids who are just easing into the mystery genre or who don't want a mystery where the violence happens on the page.

Slow in the beginning, but fast and exciting in the end. Entertaining and fun, but not great.
