I do not remember the last time there was a villain that I was truly spooked by. You understood how he got there and his descent into madness. Chills. And because of his magic I was suspicious of literally everyone and that it was secretly him.

The magic system was cool and the setting. And I feel like the characters were dynamic. I don’t know if I will read the rest of the series though. I don’t like reading follow-up books about couples that have already gotten together.

A bit more of a mystery thriller vibe than I thought it was going to be but still enjoyed it.

This was a cute, cozy fantasy book. It read quickly and easily, and it felt like an adventure you were taken on by the characters. I could have done without the flashbacks, as they provided background on the villain that didn’t really feel necessary given how the story was set up. There’s a small romantic subplot that actually made the characters’ motivations even more endearing.

I do think this will be a book I will forget quite soon after reading. That’s why it is a three star for
