Feel invoice with a comfortable read, love how it took you back in time, made you fall in love with all

He had two babies, one was 6 one was a teen, in the autumn of 97...
(Please tell me you sang that to the tune of I Don't Wanna Wait because if you didn't please go back and try again)
This book has had such a grip on me. I was transported back in time. Back to a time where the family phone was attached to the wall and EVERYONE heard what your friend said on the answering machine because you didn't answer the phone during dinner. Back to a time where you went to a video store to take out a movie for the weekend. Back to a time where an innkeeper had to really figure out where they went wrong on their own because no one was leaving a review online.
Cliff and Michelle both have partner wounds from their exes. They're afraid to love again. They aren't sure they're worthy of being loved just as they are.
Julie tells their stories honoring the flaws in each human (except one character who can get kicked in the nards for all I care). She makes the book delightfully nostalgic but never cheesy. Each reference to the 90s, in both language and pop culture, fits seamlessly into the story and never feels forced. It's a story of love and second chances whether you miss the 90s or not BUT if you loved the 90s as much as I did you're gonna REALLY love this book.
Grab a cozy blanket, a warm beverage, a tasty treat (the book WILL make you hungry- Cliff is a baker), and light a candle as you snuggle in for this cozy romance.
And bonus tip: I searched "fall ambiance" on YouTube and had a small town with falling leaves or a cozy fire as my backdrop while I read. You won't regret that choice either.

small town • single dad • slow burn
set in the ‘90s
This book feels like home. a warm hug. a pastry.
If you love Gilmore Girls you will absolutely love this guaranteed and it is the PERFECT read for the ‘ber months. (It goes through Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas)
The premise itself is perfection but this book truly over delivered for me going far beyond my expectations.
Much like a certain pastry, this story has layers and so much depth. It feels like I hopped through a portal and fell into a moment in time where this was real and I was there experiencing it. I want to know these people and be among them in my own life. The writing was so beautiful I feel like I highlighted the whole book.
The last 10% had me crying my eyes out which was not expected. I think it was just from the true connection that I formed with these characters and the wrapping up of everything. And of course by the end, I didn’t want to finish it because I didn’t want to leave!!! Now I have separation anxiety *cries*
So many things I loved—
The personification of Rocket and watching their relationship grow over time
Cliff’s weird baker thing of trying to figure out her favorite pastry throughout the book
ok just Cliff in general, duh
The spice scenes oml

Thank you to Pen Pal PR and Julie Olivia for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
OMG. I am in love with everything that Julie Olivia writes. I am in love with Cliff, I am in love with Michelle, I am in love with Copper Run. I am in love with ‘If It Makes You Happy’!
I was soooo excited to read this book, because even though I was not alive in the 90’s (unfortunately for me), I knew that Julie could really build that world for me. Although it is still in the upper 80’s here, temperature wise, I could feel the coziness of fall and winter weather while reading this!
I was so invested in Cliff and Michelle’s budding friendship and relationship. The slow burn in this was chefs kiss. Truly perfect, and definitely worth the wait. I loved seeing them become friends, and seeing Michelle’s walls come down around Cliff. AND single dad romance is one my favorite tropes, so I loved seeing Michelle interact with Britt Britt and Emily. I loved the way that they became a little family, and Michelle cared for both of the girls (and Rocket).
As someone who has recently left home and everyone I love, the last few chapters hit very hard. I was sobbing. And don’t get me started on the epilogue…
It was truly amazing getting to read this book, and I am so excited to read every book that Julie Olivia releases from here on out!
Thank you again to Pen Pal PR and Julie Olivia!!!

Sometimes you come across a book that just feels like magic and you’re never the same after. This is that book for me. Filled with my childhood and teen years it was so nostalgic. I’m obsessed.
3.5 stars. Cute little 90's small town single dad romance. I liked that the MMC was a baker, a bit of a different occupation to most other romance books, and I think the author portrayed his physical attributes from his job well! Overall a decent read, I just didn't fall in love with the main characters.
