A vital memoir from @sarahemcbride about her fight for equal rights for ALL people.
🏳️⚧️
As a teenager (and even younger) Sarah struggled with her gender identity. As a senior in college she comes out to her family as transgender Thus begins Sarah’s fight for #transrights, her story of finding love and losing that love early on in her life, as well as her journey as a political powerhouse in Delaware and in DC. She spoke at the DNC in 2016 as the first transgender person to do so and has helped pass countless laws affirming transgender civil rights.

History will remember Sarah. I’d briefly heard of her via news headlines, but when my mom’s friend said this was the best book she’d ever read about trans rights, I had to read it immediately. Cut to me sitting in my car outside the hair salon bawling because of how powerful and impactful this autobiography was. If you’re struggling with what being transgender means or you want to see a story of growth and coming into one’s own or you want to see a trans person fighting the good fight in politics—this nonfiction book is for you.
CW: transphobia, cancer, death, chronic illness, medical trauma, outing, cyberbullying, bullying, suicidal thoughts, grief, blood, hate crime, panic attacks, dysphoria, vomit, sexual harassment

“Hope can be limitless. Inspiration can always be found. Ideas are endless. But time, that is the one resource that none of us can afford to waste.”
An accessible, inspiring, sometimes painful memoir with a (minor) focus on the politics involved in fighting for trans equality.
This does read like a love letter to Biden at times - which is understandable given the author's history and her affiliations - but it does deify some political figures, ignoring the active harm they continue to cause.
Overall though, I am glad I read this. It's clear Sarah McBride is a caring individual and I appreciated the chance to hear even a portion of her story.
