soooo good, so tense but in the best way
If you've read Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus books, you know what a delight his writing is. If you haven't read them, then why are you still here? Get thee to a library!
Good news: This book is awesome. Scary and hilarious, with a really great explanation of why kids are on the front line of this ghostly war. The mystery was really well done, and I'm excited to come back for more. Be warned that it is pretty scary, so depending on the age and courage of your child, you may want to proceed with caution.
Recently reread because I watched the show. My verdict on the show, started out shaky but really started to shine in the adaptation of the second book. They needed to spend at least one more episode on book 1. But because the adaption didn't do the first book justice, I decided to reread. In any case, it's a shame the show didn't get a second season, because it had really started to find its groove by the end.

Loved this! There were so many small cases and other details that didn't make it into the show. So many of George's sick burnsss didn't make it in either

A very nice book - great for middle schoolers with a good vocabulary. No dumbing down of the plot. This is a good solid adventure book and I look forward to reading the next one.

I absolutely devoured this mysterious adventure! The pacing is phenomenal, the characters are witty, and the plot is absolutely stunning. This novel is excellently written with such a fun, ominous vibe that gripped me the whole time. I read it in one sitting, and I think it's a fun read for any age. I definitely will be beginning the next book in the series as soon as I possibly can
