I'm starting to doubt Inspector Grant's detective skills - he needed a lot of help here!
But I'm getting a better feel for his personality. I'm going to read at least one more before I change gears for a while.

not as satisfyingly and neatly concluded but still fun! imagine my surprise when i finished this and found out there’s a hitchcock film loosely based on it … where’s my miniseries? also props to this book for making me hate astrologers even more <3

I really love this author’s writing style. Everything is so civilized and British. This mystery did t actually stick to formula because one could t solve it on your own, but I really liked the ride.

Not gonna lie: this was really hard for me to finish/ keep up with. It took me so long that when the mystery was solved I didn't even recognize some of the people, and (supposedly) shocking revelations just caused me to really force my memory to try and discover what exactly did I miss, since no shock occurred. I much preferred Tey's first novel. However flawed, at least it captured my attention enough to want to finish it. This was just... so dull. The opposite of what murder mysteries should be. Really disappointed.

It’s the quality of the writing and excellent subtle plotting that does it. Ignore the non PC statements that creep in from time time - a reflection on the period when the books were written. Tey is a mistress of the genre.
