Surprisingly good read

This book was recommended to me by a PA to one of my favourite authors. At first, I did not like the book nor did I hate it but I carried on reading as curiosity got the better of me.
The turmoil that Karma goes through is gut-wrenching and addictive to read.
Calix, Raz and Barron are her bullies and are completely broken, dark and most definitely messed up. But Karma gets under their skin, climbs over walls and bashes doors down to get them to reveal themselves to her. Shockingly sweet romantic moments filled with scorching hot smexy. But as Karma relives each day over and over, she realises in the end everything has to balance.
An emotional roller-coaster read with betrayal, declaration of love, art and friendship. A great read. But note that the story is intense and triggers warnings.

this book was super fast paced, especially because it was set over the course of one day, and it was a whirlwind of emotions and character growth !! i’m not usually a big fan of timeloop books but it was honestly just super fun and i loved seeing the main character tackle the day differently and get to know the characters throughout each repeat. i didn’t love any of the characters specifically but i had a fun time and enjoyed myself !!!

30 minutes into the audiobook and I have 0 idea what the story is about, just a bunch of convos about nothing (yes I read the blurb and no, I still don't understand).

Before I Fall meets Dark RH romance.

There's just something addicting about a well done groundhogs day. And this is that.

------
That's the last thing I remember. And then … there's blood all over my steering wheel. Nothing lasts forever. That is the nature of beautiful things.

Kiss me like I matter.

Play with that delicious darkness, but do not let it consume you.

“He didn’t hurt me,” I choke out, “not physically.” But into my heart, he stabbed a knife, twisted it, laughed as I bled.

“You looked sad and lonely, Calix, and you're not allowed to look that way, not when I was willing to love you.” I glance up at him and smile tightly. It's just occurred to me that there's always at least one constant here: sacrifice. When one event in my life tends to go right, others tend to go south. I can't have it all; I have to choose. As much as I was loath to do it before, I'm ready now. It has to be today. “Not when I still do.”

It was an ok book but I just didn’t feel it. For me personally I couldn’t gel with the whole Groundhog Day theme and it did get a bit repetitive. This is a bully romance of an Ivy League school for wayward teenagers of really rich parents who don’t want them around so it’s safe to say the teenagers are screwed up in the head. And they did and said some very questionable things.

Even though this book had me wonder what the hell I was reading at times this book did keep me interested until the end because I wanted to see how it ended but mainly because I wanted to see the 4 way smut.

I couldn’t get behind the characters in this book and that’s a really big thing for me, if I don’t click with the characters I more than likely won’t enjoy the book and that’s a completely personal preference. I mean I did like them sometimes and out of all the characters Barron was my favourite.

Even this wasn’t my cup of tea, I will be reading this authors other books as I did really enjoy Allison’s adventures in Underland

Calix, Barron, and Raz the assh*les.
and then there's karma the glutton for punishment.

But really, I did enjoy it in a trainwrecky way. It was super absorbing.
Would I read the author again... probably not, but that's just me. It wasn't really a romance imho.

Karma relives Devil's day over and over for no apparent reason, but it was entertaining. Especially as she let go of her fear and was able to be herself with everyone.
She's a high school student who is bullied by the Knight crew who are a group of friends; Calix, Barron, Raz and Sonia. They bully other kids too, but seem to focus a lot of attention on Karma.
Karma has her own crew of friends who are all the 'not cool' kids at school. A high school made up of rich kids that are unwanted by their parents for whatever reason.

It makes for a very unhealthy dynamic ...for everyone.

Anyways, Karma knows she is reliving the same day just as in the movie 'Groundhog Day', but other people don't. At least they don't at first...
She is unempowered at the start of the story but reliving the same day over and over, imbues her with power.

Like all stories in this trope the main character needs to figure out how to break the loop. She has to deal with isolation and exhaustion. She has to deal with repetition, but fortunately I didn't feel like the story was ever spinning it's wheels or 'repetitive' to the reader.

Did I find the story romantic. No, not really. But I did like Karma even though I think she has terrible taste in men.
Did the 3 boys redeem themselves. I guess so? I don't know that I would put much trust in them though.

There are a couple epilogues though that are meant to reassure the reader that the HEA is workable.
So the plus side is that this is truly a bully romance for those drawn to that trope. I liked that the characters were open about their sexuality. A couple of the guys like to make fun of Karma's lesbian mothers, but I got the feeling it was just to push her buttons and not that they were homophobes.
I found the characters interesting but I never really learn much about any of them except for Karma. But everyone was a combination of good and bad. There was only one character that wasn't really redeemable.
The boys don't feel interchangeable, but they didn't have much depth.

There are lots of questions raised that you never get answers to...

So it was good, but not really my cup of tea.

Safety is better than I expected.
Spoiler Calix was actually a virgin until he had sex with Karma a year ago (when she was a virgin too). He hasn't been with anyone else since except for some casual kissing and light petting for show. Raz is a slut, but there's no details given so I have no idea if it was other students or outside the school... He is also bisexual. Barron isn't a virgin but there's no details given. I like to think he's been celibate since he formed a fascination for Karma in first year, but I've no idea.
