so much fun, my favourite anne rice mode is lestat POV! lots of musings on god and morality which luckily is my thing. as always, lestat making bonkers choices and then crying about it and ultimately being forgiven by almost everyone is a joy to read.

Honestly I think this book followed the wrong vampire. I think it would have been way more compelling to see someone like Louis who would actually have to grapple with the question of staying a mortal, as opposed to Lestat who knew within minutes he wanted his body back

This one is so hard to read, because Lestat is suffering so badly and the self-destructive (and also destructive) path he walks in this is really heartbreaking. I was so frustrated with him, but it was also clear that he was hurting real bad and that he was in such a bad state of mind that all he wanted, truly, was a chance to let go and die. Well fuck. The way his priorities and his thoughts, everything changes once he's in a human body was so fascinating to me. This book is such a fundamental one for understanding how becoming a vampire changes someone and for understanding Lestat as a character.

Also: Lestat and Daniel on a cruise ship shenanigans will never not be funny to me.

The quiet domesticity of Lestat and Louis returning to each other at the end yet again is such a beautiful theme in the Chronicles. How complicated and wonderful their love for each other is.
