the way claudia haunted lestat throughout the whole book really moved me. he is such a fascinating character - funny then repulsive, charming and suddenly horrific, and on and on the cycle goes. just when you think you loathe him, you find love for him again, and then he does something so digusting that the hatred comes flooding back. such an experience to read.

Summary: This is the fourth book in the Vampire Chronicles series. It follows Lestat when he meets up with a mysterious man who says he can switch bodies with people. He offers to switch bodies with Lestat for a few days so Lestat can experience what it was like to be human again. Lestat is warned against this by multiple other characters, but he doesn't listen and goes through with the switch anyway and then his body is stolen.
Favorite Quote: "That's the only way the literal Devil can do good," I said. "To play himself in a tableau to expose evil. Unless one believes that he is doing good when he is doing evil, but that would make a monster out of God, wouldn't it?--the Devil is simply part of the divine plan." (pg. 221)
Review: This was okay, but I didn't love it. I think the Vampire Chronicles books that focus too heavily on Lestat I don't really end up liking much because I don't really like him very much. When he has someone to play off of, like Louis or another more serious character, I like him better. David fills that role in this, but he's a little too worshipful of him I think.

This was a lot darker book than the previous ones including hauting past and rejection and, I think it can be said, two rapes. It might be a little too close to reality.
