I absolutely adored this book. What a seriously fun read to start out my summer! Clara and Madeleine Sommers are on a quest that their dying grandmother sent them on to reconnect with a variety of people from her past, all scattered about Europe on the cusp of WWII. It's a novel about sisters, about love, about travel, with a wonderful dash of history thrown in on the side. I loved all the characters so much, and I devoured this book in just two nights. Heather Webb and Hazel Gaynor are truly the best author team, and this book is a testament to their power of telling a great story.

Wonderful story. Loved the relationships and the backdrop.

I just LOVED this book!! I read it quickly because I couldn't put it down. The story of these two sisters and the way this trip brought them together was just so well written. I loved the historical ties to the story without it becoming 'just another WWII novel'.

The characters in this book just seemed so well developed and their individual story lines meshed well with each other.

Thank you Netgalley and William Morrow Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"You'll find your chapters and your epilogue. While you're busy delving into everyone else's stories, don't neglect your own."

This was a cozy, emotionally sweet, and predictable historical fiction novel. It was the kind of sweet story that makes a perfect gift, and also the kind of story that is perfect for reading on bad weather days, or while you're traveling!

"We choose the life we are destined to live, don't we. And there are good things and bad, no matter the course."

This story focuses on the importance of family, sisterhood, family secrets and travel! So much travel! I definitely got some wanderlust after reading this one. The story also features a lot of information about Nellie Bly, which I absolutely loved!

I listened to this one on audiobook. The narrators did a good job.

This is an author duo that I will read anything and everything by. Their writing is seamless together and yet this unique voice comes through to their characters and stories by their combined writing that I always enjoy. I’m so happy to report that this latest by Gaynor and Webb totally lived up to my expectations for it. I loved this book!

A coming of age story of sisterhood, set in the backdrop of Hitler’s regime, and a journey across Europe that is just as immersive and exciting for the reader as it was for the two sisters we come alongside... this was a heartwarming and surprisingly gripping story that had me unable to put it down. Estranged sisters Clara and Madeleine are brought together by the dying wish of their beloved grandmother to travel across Europe just as she once did and deliver three letters to three people who once had a meaningful place in her life. Secrets surface and a past the two sisters never imagined comes to light on this impactful and satisfying journey.

Reading this book was an experience. I was all in! Such a vivid sense of place was painted here that it left me completely immersed in the locations, sites, and sounds of the cities we visit. In fact it almost felt as if I was within the pages of a travel book, and as a lover of travel myself, it was definitely a highlight for me! That said, I also really liked coming alongside these sisters in their relationship and those other characters we meet along the way. They were all so well-developed and I appreciated getting to experience the underlying tension, fears, and hopes of this turbulent time leading up to WW2 through these specific lenses and seeing how they walked through it all.

If you’re looking for a quick historical fiction read that still delivers a powerful and strong storyline and holds you firmly to your seat, this is the book for you!

I received a gifted copy from William Morrow in exchange for my honest review.

A great read about sisters finding their way back to each other. I loved how the book incorporated real world historical events. And family secrets are always fun!
