This book was incredible. I really enjoyed it.

3.5 I found the timeframe of this book to be unique; two sisters traveling through Europe on the brink of war. I appreciated all of the time period references for both a visual and how it related to the freedom (or lack thereof) women had back then.

Favorite excerpt:
"The Hindenburg tragedy had provided a much-needed reminder that life was too short. There was no time to spend any of it going in the wrong direction, or putting up with things that didn't make your heart sing. From now on, I would follow my passions, and I would spend time with people who filled my life with love and joy, not misery and doubt."

I loved being transported back in time to the golden age of travel! Sisters Maddie and Clara set off on a journey - the last wish of a dying grandmother. While they couldn’t be more different, and those differences have caused a rift in their sister relationship, both girls agree to go on the trip to honor their grandmother’s wishes - and to deliver 3 letters to people from their grandmother’s past. In traveling aboard the Queen Mary, the Orient Express, and the Hidenberg, Maddie and Clara learn much about themselves, love, the importance of friendship, and independence.

A wonderful easy read that is full of love and inspiration

This is a delightful Summer read with a few surprises.

I really enjoyed the author's style and tone which were suited to the era of the late 1930s. The story of two estranged sisters being brought together by their grandmother may seem a bit tame but there are a number of twists and turns in the plot that keep you engrossed.

Clara and Madeleine don't see eye-to-eye on many things, and this is something their grandmother Violet wishes to change so she sends them on a European trip. Violet's life is nearing its end and there is unfinished business that she wants the girls to attend to during this voyage.

As the story unfolds so many issues arise - the role of women in society, discrimination, hatred, wealth: its privileges and its biases, and relationships.

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

It was so easy to fall into this story! Set in 1937 Europe on the cusp of World War II, the story centers around two sisters who are tasked with fulfilling a grandmother’s dying wish. Poignant and engaging, it is the kind of story you want to read all in one sitting. Simply lovely.

Thanks to Goodreads for an ARC of this book.

I shivered on the way back to our hotel, leaning on the one thing that had been a constant my whole life, even when we’d fought and disagreed and hated each other. My sister.

Three Words for Goodbye written by best-selling authors Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb is a beautiful story of two estranged sisters on a journey through Europe in the 1930’s for their Grandmother Violet who they adore.

Clara and Madeleine are such amazing characters that are very well written, and I loved seeing both the individuals themselves and together grow over the course of their journey to Paris, Venice, and Vienna. I’m only slightly jealous I can’t go on a trip like this!

If you love historical fiction, stories about love/family, or love books about vacations/trips, you will adore Three Words for Goodbye!

I give this novel 4.5 stars! (Rounded to 5 for Goodreads purposes.)
