Becky gets really lost in all the glitz of Hollywood and it seems to overwhelm the story. You have to read Shopaholic to the Rescue to finish the story and be satisfied.

I love Sophie Kinsella. When I am in the mood for a chicklit book, she is my #1 go-to. This book did not disappoint. I laughed out loud (like a crazy person in public), and enjoyed the story from page 1 to the end.
SpoilerMy only problem - - it has a cliffhanger ending!! I have never had that in one of her books, and I wasn't expecting it. Arrrghhh Ms. Kinsella, now I have to wait like a year for your next book! I'm not really complaining, I wouldn't actually change anything that can actually be changed (if I could though I would bend time to see the next book now!). But I will definitely have more urgency to read her next book!!

Becky is back...and she's made some progress in her life journey to being less self-centered it seems, but maybe not as much as every reader would like, but then she wouldn't be Becky. There were several plot lines running throughout the book that I enjoyed as the story was as complex as ever. I am looking forward to the next installment though because not everything is resolved in this one. The new scenery and commentary on fame and new age treatments is very interesting and the book builds in typical fashion, but the resolution is a good one!

I forgot how infuriating Becky Bloomwood can be. You just want to shake her, but then she finally pulls her head out of her ass. I did NOT like that this had a cliffhanger and now I need to read the next one to figure out what is going on.

Terribly disappointed. I couldn't even finish it... Loved the first few in the series but I am done with the Shopaholic books now. Annoying characters and no story line... Waste of time.

The characters seem to be getting a tad more meat to their back story. :) Still a good mindless, fun, read.

Just like that?? Urgh, I hate how the end is hanging!
I hope the next book come out REAL soon!

I often wrestle with how to rate a book. Does one rate it on the quality of the writing, the strength of the story, the complexity of the characters, or how the reader like the book.

I think Shopaholic to the Stars is probably well written. It spends 12 hours -- yep,I listened as I walked -- convincing me that Becky is the most self centered, trivial person on the planet. Ms. Kinsella lets Becky make terrible decisions every day of her journey in Los Angeles. She gives Becky a personality of a 13 year old gushing teen.

Given that, Becky finally comes to what I would consider more or less normal adult behavior in the last hour and a half. That hour and a half opens a way, apparently, with what I considered hooks to what could be a strong story line. I really want to learn what happens next, but I am not sure I am sufficiently interested to spend another 12 hours finding out.

So, why did I spend time with this book. I have been investigating genera with which I have no contact. A friend teased me about Chick-Lit, so I decided to choose this when it was available for download. Unfortunately, I don't really know what Chick-Lit is supposed to be, so I don't know if this is typical or not. I may try another to find out, although I guess Bridget Jones' Diary is a member of the genera, and I quite liked it.

I don't usually begin reading in the middle of a series, so I suspect starting on book #7 did it a disservice. Please feel free to disregard this review if you are a real fan.
