I accidentally skipped a few books in the series, so I have missed some of the downfall of Becky Bloomwood. It's painfully obvious in this one that our favorite shopaholic is now a one-dimensional, barely redemptive character. I still liked the book and I still like Kinsella's style because there are days where you just want an easy, fun, familiar book to read. I think I'm out growing the ridiculousness of Becky, though. I'll go back and read the ones I've missed, and I'll read the next Shopaholic book (because this one ends on a cliffhanger), but after that I'm sure I'm done simply because I've had enough of the stupid antics. Why couldn't some other Kinsella books get a sequel instead?
Meh. It's hard to like or sympathize with Becky at this point. It wasn't very fun. It was mostly sad - how selfish Becky is, all the arguments between people and petty behavior... The book ends with a cliffhanger and I'll probably read the next book but this particular book wasn't my cup of tea.
Spoiler
because I am curious what is going on with her dad and that "We're all called Rebecca" business
I didn't love Mini Shopaholic and I should have stopped there. But I wanted to give the series, and Becky, another chance. But this book was a pain to read. Nothing happens. The plot is extremely shallow. Nothing is resolved. There are too many extraneous story lines used as filler, Becky has become unrealistically shallow and pathetic. She's worse off than when the series started in my opinion and hasn't learned or grown at all. I'm sad, but I have to give up Shopaholic. The ending to this book was written as such that there will definitely be a No. 8, but I will not be reading it.
I enjoyed the first three a lot, plodded through the others because I enjoy the characters but this one was very difficult to like. Slow, way too many side stories and I felt like we might never get to the point.
The first Shopaholic book was very cute - the others have been downhill slowly but this one is the worst. It is now at the point where I have no idea why anyone continues to talk to Becky? She's selfish, immature and careless. This book ends in a cliffhanger and I honestly don't care enough about the story to pick up the next one when it comes out. I'm done.
WUT
You don’t end an insipid novel like that! Uuuugh. Now I HAVE to read the next one 😂
Shopaholic is brain junk food for me. Becky irritates the FIRE out of me because I’ve consciously decided to be more fiscally and personally/emotionally responsible. She irritates me because I see who I could have been. I scream at her internally for like 98% of the book... but I keep reading, because apparently I like that. So.
Try it. You’ll like the break from the more serious books you read.

This was fairly dumb, and also a cliffhanger for the next book, which hugely disappointed me.
Sophie Kinsella does such an awesome job with this series. Such a cute, light-hearted read.
