Maybe Stephen King just isn't for me. This my 2nd book from him and at least Misery picked up. This book was just awful to me. I didn't like the way it was written. The characters were pretty dense. I don't think the storyline was well told. It just seemed pretty surface level. And just not what I expected it to be. And the subtle racism and fat phobic (maybe it was written like that because of the time period) I found unnecessary.

I’m glad I finally read this classic. I knew part of the story prior to picking it up, but there were still a few surprises, as well.

I think I would’ve gotten more into the story if there were traditional chapters.

For the first half of the book, I kept thinking to myself “Whatever Carrie does, they have it coming” (save for, like, 3 or 4 characters), but once she started getting her revenge, I stopped rooting for her. I didn’t dislike her, but I wanted her and everyone else to just…not.

Idk if I’ll ever be able to give a King book 5 stars because of the amount of slurs he uses unnecessary. That aside I’m very worried about people who say that this is a “good for her” book. It’s a tragedy and I feel sympathy for Carrie but
killing all of your classmates for revenge is definitely school shooter energy, please get help.
other than that it’s a pretty normal Stephen King book. The way Margaret and Misery were written were almost exactly the same. And he really cannot write convincing dialogue for women. But at the end of the day he’s able to pull you in and tell a good story so what can I say.
