Loved the cover, liked the beginning, but got bogged down in the ordinary midway through (p. 163 for when I check it out again as it is overdue!)
Quotes so far
"You think school is bad? A minimum-wage job makes school look like freaking Burning Man. Unless you have some kind of fetish for doing the same rote physical task eight million times a day." p. 30
"On Saturday night they chose to forgo the news in favor of a diversionary James Bond binge. Eliza thought it would help get her mind off things, but without the constant feed of real-world information, her imagination took over." p. 104
"I have a theory that if the day ever comes when the students and the teachers don't listen to any of the same music, the entire educational system will collapse." p. 107

Well, the premise sounded right up my alley. What would you do if you knew the world would be destroyed in 2 months? How would you spend that time? For me, the payoff was not great. I really didn't care if an asteroid wiped out any of these particular characters. As a matter of fact, I was kind of looking forward to it. I do think it will find it's place with some teen readers.

Bastante malo :/.

An interesting read about four high school seniors dealing with the possible end of the world. Likable characters and a good plot with some unexpected action toward the end.

Just yikes
It immediately drew me in, and kept me hooked pretty much the whole way.
But god was it so predictable
I feel like you can predict EVERYTHING that happens in this book.
It had all the tropes too;
The sports guy
The manic pixie dream girl
The smart girl but has other passions
The pothead that has potential
It was nothing very profound. I think it had some good messages about life being not as pointless or pointless but that's okay
But it was also pretty misogynistic? Sexist? You can tell the author wrote the manic pixie dream girl character as an insert of their dream girl.
And it's very obvious that it's a male author writing female perspectives,,,, and a white man writing a black girls perspective at that…
I'm not saying that only black authors should write black characters, but the issue is the lack of taste that was given to these characters,,, yikes
There was little nuance to any of the characters, so it was just flat.
The pacing started off good, then got worse. At some point it literally said that a week had passed like huh?
And some of the characters introduced in the beginning felt important, but abandoned not even halfway!!! Like the teacher.
It's promising and engaging, so I'm disappointed with how it was all handled. This type of book is perfect entertainment for those in high school, but I'm iffy to even say that this book would be better suited for high schoolers because of the misogynistic views on women.

A fantastic first novel filled with emotive, beautiful language; the most human characters I've read in a long time; and an incredible look at what would happen in our time if we were told the world was ending. Wallach simply seems to understand humanity on a nitty gritty level.
The concept of the book was interesting. Teen dystopian novel regarding the potential end of the world. I could get behind a couple of characters but felt most of them were too undeveloped. It was hard for me to stay engaged as a result. This book had potential, but it was a miss for me.
