We All Looked Up

I stopped when I read the part about how Anita (a black girl)'s parents would love for her to date a white boy, "not that her parents were self-hating or anything, just that they associated white values with material success, while they seemed to suspect most black kids of being, at worst, drug dealers and, at best, freeloading bohemians."

Yeah, sorry, no, I'm not reading about characters like that WRITTEN BY A WHITE GUY. And when I Googled Tommy Wallach, I found more stuff that shows he is completely ignorant on topics of feminism and race, so why would I continue to read this book? DNF'd.

*3,5

What would you do if you only had two months to live? Would you continue doing what is expected of you, or finally do exactly what you want to do? In this book, four high school students who fit into very distinct molds - the athlete, the slacker, the student council president, and the one with the bad reputation – find themselves at cross-roads. They believe they are about to head off to college and instead find there is a 66% chance the asteroid in the sky could wipe them out. This is a very beautiful story of realistic characters deciding how to live the last two months of their lives. The shifting perspective between the four characters is done really well and I loved how the author weaves his love of music into the plot! This book was a very addicting coming-of-age story! – Michelle V.

Part Breakfast Cub, part Skins, part pre-apocalypse, Tommy Wallach has created something unique and beautiful with "We All Looked Up". Told from the perspectives of 4 teens drawn together because of an asteroid heading to Earth, "We All Looked Up" doesn't pull any punches and readers are rewarded with a wonderful, raw, and sometimes funny read. This book will move and inspire and, ultimately, leave readers in suspended awe.

***Many thanks to Simon & Schuster & Edelweiss for a galley to be used for honest bookseller/ review purposes***

Overall, a disappointing read. Nothing unpredictable, but nothing stands out as a trouble spot really. Just kind of Meh.
dark emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix

What a piece of junk.

This one had all the angst and drama and tension necessary to resonate with teen audiences. The movie rights have already been picked up so this is going to be a novel to watch this year.

dnf, disliked most of the characters and writing style
