Solid 4.5. Dostoyevsky strikes again with amazing characterization and an unbeatable understanding of the human mind. Easier read than TBK, and gives more fire to my suspicion that TBK is the greatest book ever written.
Did I finish the book or did the book finish me? Sweet lord what the heck was that.

while i 100% acknowledge how brilliant it is (dostoyesky you genius) i didn’t like it as much as i thought i would.
didn’t connect with the characters that much.

Raskolnikov committing crime: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!!
Raskolnikov receiving punishment: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.

Probably the most thought provoking classic I’ve read. I had high expectations for this book and Dostoevsky sure did not disappoint.
The mind of the main character was an interesting place to be... He is so steadfast in his theory that justified his crime, but you can see his insanity unfolding with every chapter. Dostoevsky depicted the man’s wild mental unraveling so well that it felt like a visceral experience. Would highly recommend this book if you’re just getting into Russian lit.

Taylor and I read this aloud to each other during quarantine. We laughed. We mourned. We sat in utter confusion. We yelled at the book. We'll miss these characters now that it's over.
Five stars. Highly recommend.

Took me three weeks to finish, some parts really dragged.
Still, a breathtaking work of fiction and a worthwhile time investment. I wonder what modern homages of C&P exist, I'd like to read a modern-day parallel. Sort of like Netflix reboots of old shows with modern themes and jokes, but like, good.
I've had 2 hours of sleep.
