Not Palahniuk's best, but it was still decent. It's definitely not something I'd want to read twice, however.

I felt like I've read this book... about 8 times before... probably because it read just like every other Chuckie P book I've read. And I've read em all... except Refugees and whatevers... and that other non-fiction book he wrote.

The concept is cool - a chick sets out to break the world record for most sex acts committed during one day by one person. This means one chick will have sex with 600 men for a few minutes each.

The set up of the narrative is cool - the story is narrated by 3 men and one woman. Mr. 600 - the "Ron Jeremy" of the porn universe Chuckie P creates; Mr. 137 - a down-on-his-luck TV actor who is/isn't gay, is on his way to overdose on Viagra, and is just trying to get his career back on track; Mr. 72 - a nervous virgin hoping to give our porn starlette a better life; and Sheila - the wrangler, in charge of corralling the studs and calling them for their big screen debut.

So, why does this book get only 2 stars? Because it was like taking all of Chuckie P's books, putting them in a blender, and taking about 1/4th of the mixture and publishing it. He even recycled the "if you fuck a girl too hard you can push an air bubble into her bloodstream and kill her" factoid he espoused in [Book: Lullaby].

[book: Snuff] was definitely less gross than most of his other stuff, ie [book: Haunted], [book: Lullaby], [book: Diary]. But not as compelling of a story, ie [book: Rant], [book: Invisible Monsters], [book: Survivor]. If the book was grosser, I'd probably dislike it, but have just kept turning the pages waiting to see what came next. If the story was more compelling, I'd like it more but would be less passionate about the whole thing. Its a horrible conundrum I find myself in.

In sum: I recommend this book if you LIKE Chuckie P but skip it if you're on the fence and if you're thinking about reading his stuff, grab a solid book, like [book: Choke] (which makes more sense if you think about it as a dark comedy - thanks Movies!) or [book: Invisible Monsters] which is just a unique piece of storytelling. And [book: Fight Club] too... just because I haven't mentioned it yet.

Also: This book took me only 3 hours to read on a bus to Boston.

I had read only one other Chuck Palahniuk book (Invisible Monsters) in high school and it wasn’t too bad, so 7 years later I thought I’d give the author another shot. My friend is an avid C.P. fan and highly recommended that I start out with reading Snuff and that it was her first and favorite C.P. book.
I had borrowed this book with the intention of returning it in pristine condition, so I consistently had to resist the urge to throw this book across the room or light it on fire. It physically pained me to try to finish reading this book. What bothered me was not the shocking subject matter or even the gritty descriptions of cheesy fingers and sticky floors… this book was so predictable, unrealistic (the ending… seriously?!), and so incredibly frustrating and boring. It took me three times as long to finish this book because I simply could not motivate myself to read another damn sentence. I groaned out loud at every page. Gun at my head, I would prefer to read Twilight over this book any day. That basically sums up my feelings towards Snuff.

A very polarizing book from a polarizing author. After lukewarm feelings about Choke and Haunted, I was ready to disregard Palahniuk as not for me, but had a different response to Snuff. This book is transgressive fiction done right. It’s funny, sad, and thoroughly entertaining.
